Wilderness -- "an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain ... an area protected and managed so as to preserve its natural conditions." —The Wilderness Act of 1964

The cache is placed in Pike National Forest close to a small parking pull-off at Stoney Pass. It's located very close to the boundary of the Lost Creek Wilderness, and requires a short uphill walk to reach it from the Pass. Buffalo Peak, elevation 11,589 feet, rises to the west of Stoney Pass and represents a challenging bushwhack (about 6 1/2 miles RT and more than 3,000 feet of elevation gain) for those of you interested in an ambitious adventure after finding the cache. Buffalo Peak (formerly known as Freeman Peak) is the high point of Jefferson County and is climbed infrequently because of the difficulties it poses. I placed this cache during my second hike up this mountain, the entire hike being in this wonderful Wilderness Area. The hike is completely in forested terrain until the final 50 feet. The top provides spectacular views of many 14ers as well as the peaks of the Tarryall Range and the Platte River Mountains. The Castle, rising above lovely Wellington Lake, is a predominant close-in feature from the peak's summit. The container is a large medicine vial wrapped in camo tape. It's in a nook in a rock formation, covered by smaller rocks to keep it in place. Be certain to replace the protective rocks to prevent small rodents from moving it. Make certain to bring a pen or pencil to sign the cache log.

Thanks, toshbar, for putting the cache back in its correct position and replacing rocks around it per the cache write-up. Apparently, the previous finder did not get the job done!

Got it today in the snow. It had rolled down the hill about 20 feet. I repacked rocks around it so it won't go anywhere again. Thanks!

Time is moving on, and fast. I dated the log 7-4-16. Would some kind geo-person change the "7" to an "8".
Thanks. - Buttepit.
Nice cool overcast date from the hot days following that very large hail in the Springs. Dog Roxy and I are checking this back road to Baily out.

Found this one today. Doing the Decalibron tomorrow. Will post more when I'm home.
Back home after a wonderful Decalibron hike with kenyansherpa! He and I had planned to meet this morning (Saturday) at Kite Lake to hike and bag those 14ers and the caches on them. I have been trying to fill my 2X Fizzy and only had two spots left - 5/3 and 1/5. I made plans to go after Jeep Trap to fill the 5/3 spot since it wasn't too far out of the way from my route to Kite Lake. I left Friday morning none too early and got to Bailey at 11 am. It just so happened my friend Denali41 placed a cache very near to my intended parking spot for Jeep Trap so I had to target that one too. After parking I made the short walk to the cache and found it hidden as described. Signed the log and then headed SE. Thanks Steve for another nice one in the NTB series!!!
