In 2009 I was finishing the Colorado DeLorme Challenge and the Colorado Counties Challenge while also completing the 64 Colorado County Highpoints. I was VERY close to Lone Cone on one of my trips to SW Colorado and sort of drooled at the prospect of making the hike to the summit and also completing this multi. I simply lacked the time for it then, and have thought about this great cache off-and-on ever since. Recently I was planning details of a trip that would get me to the four Virtual caches I still needed in the southwestern corner of the state and decided that Devil's Chair would be a priority equal in importance to the virtuals I was after--or perhaps even more important! So last night I slept in my old Blazer at the trailhead and got up to cloudy weather this morning. I hoped the forecasted thunderstorms would stay away and the weather would allow me to get safely to the summit and then to the "chair" and then down to my vehicle with no hiccups. Everything went properly, and the weather actually improved as my climb progressed.
I loved the hike and this peak, and I rate this overall caching experience as one of the finest I've ever had through my caching years. A small portion of the bottom of the container has been gnawed away by a small rodent, but everything inside was in great condition and no maintenance is actually warranted at this time.
Thanks for a great multi-cache, A & J - Adrift!

Drove from Fruita to Farmington today with a detour to hike up Lone Cone. Got a few caches along the way. Weather was great and the scenery even better.
This was my main goal for the day. I had wanted to do this in July, but that time I came in from the southeast and didn't like the looks of the cliff along that ridge and didn't want to do the long traverse to the north ridge. Tried to drive around to the north parking area but was stopped by a very large log lying across the road.
Today I came from the north and managed to get to the trailhead with little difficulty. Met a bow hunter about 3/4 of a mile up the trail. After that I had the mountain to myself until I met a couple just starting to go up the scree as I was going down. It was nice to find both stages without any significant searching. The container has been chewed on a little, but I think it has several years left in it.
Thanks for the well done multi.

I've been waiting now for a few days for just the right time to head up Lone Cone Peak. This was it...a beautiful clear crisp autumn day here in SW Colorado, so I headed out in the jeep to find the trailhead. Temperatures were cool today, but with no winds it was just right for the hike/climb. The summit was calm and serene, and it was very pleasant to just kick back and relax while calculating the final cache coords. Of course, the views were superb. It was a most enjoyable day on the mountain, and as expected I didn't see anyone else. The nicely stocked cache container is in perfect condition. Both sets of coords were perfect and I had no trouble locating the cache. TNLN and signed the logbook. This was a fine cache experience, and surely one of my most favorite. Many thanks!!

Not having 4WD nor high clearance our Westy could only make it as far as the junction of FR 615 and FR 612 (9,700 feet), so we hiked the 4 miles to the trailhead and then the 2 miles to the summit (12,613 feet) (and back). We left the van at 9 am arriving at the summit at 1 pm via the North Ridge. It was a clear beautiful day with a spectacular view at the height of the Fall colors in the San Juans! The actual cache was easily found. We saw no-one all day. Many thanks to A & J for a wonderful outdoor experience!
