Alas I finally get to mark this as a smiley, it all started back in Aug of 2013, when Denail41 attempted to gather a crew of cachers that expressed some interest in this cache, with time constraints of all the other cachers involved it never materialized into a great outing as expected. Rains of mid Sept of 2013 that destroyed Big Thompson canyon highways and roads and all small streams feeding it were annihilated which put a major halt on a great geocaching experience for the next two years. Today with the pulling of some strings to get the day off from work I made it happen, Not only was I able get to hike with Denali41 but as an added bonus Tahosa and Sons which is now back in the wonderful state of Colorado were our leaders on the day! The hike was wonderful as expected and I even learned some new tricks with the GPSR. and practiced using topo maps again and gained a couple more smileys on the day, thanks Joe and Steve for the awesome day! I look forward to doing it again on the west side of Crosier by nabbing some of those great caches.

This cache has been in my sights for some time!
I saw on Facebook that Tahosa was going to be hiking the Crosier area today so I asked to tag along and was happy he said yes. Had a great time caching with friends and collecting smilies.
I was the tech guy and used my smart phone, still had fun using old fashioned paper maps for a little today as well. We all had a good time today and I am glad to get this one off the bucket list! Thanks fo the unique caching experience and cache. FAVE.

If your looking to fill seats I'm in! Don't have one my self but would be a good copilot for someone! I still need to log this as a find and I wasn't fond of taking the easy one at the last event recognition!

I was heading to Arizona to grab GC57. I put a log on the webpage asking if anyone was interested in joining me for a hike into the said cache. Immediately I got a reply from "Tahosa and Sons" After several emails back and forth a surprise was promised. What a surprise indeed.!!
An introduction to geo teering and geo touring. A great day was had indeed. A fellow named Mike joined Tahosa and his two sons and myself for a day of "jockularity" and good friends, good food and several kms of hiking with a collection of caches accumulated at days end. I really enjoyed myself and was quite happy to have the day end with tired back and feet.I was laid up several times over the past year due to back surgeries so I was a little leery at first about doing this jaunt. The good gents got us a US forestry pass and we were off.
After we learned the finer points of using maps, scales, compasses and how to get around without a handheld GPS we settled in to the finer points of walking through the desert. I then learned what Cactus NOT to touch. Which Cactus "JUMP" and when not to walk in a wash during "Monsoon Season"
Thanks again gentlemen.

Introduction to Mapping Basics 101
12/10/2014 By BearingGirl
It's funny how paths cross and one thing leads to another. And that serendipity is how I am able to log this cache. Visiting Arizona from Pittsburgh, PA I wanted to do some desert caches, but was a little leery of heading out on my own, so I send out an S.O.S. and what fortune for me that Tahosa sends out a line and graciously offers to be my guide for a hike. So a couple of emails later arrangements are made and everything is set. That last email though puzzled me a little, ending with "the maps are printed so set your gps to UTM...." what? How do I....? Well this should be interesting and it was. When we pulled upto the locked gate at Bulldog Canyon, Tahosa pulled out the maps, compass, protractor, gage thingy, (um, where is the gps??) and gave me a lesson on finding your way without batteries. I can't say that I will be out and about anytime soon without my technology, but this lesson has awakened my curiousity and realization that it is best to have the basics and build from there. Tahosa, thank you so much for your dedication and willingness to spread the wealth of knowledge.
