Greenhorn Garden Cache!!

I have always liked this trail so I thought that I would finally get out there and place the cache that has been in the back of the Jeep for a few months now.
Parking is at:

N 37°55.294'

W 104°58.043' (Thanks Water Wolf & Snowkitten)

It's about a .6 mile hike up the trail to the cache site. The trail is easy, our 3 year old made it up the trail. The last 50 yards or so are a bit more difficult so I rated it a 4.5 for that reason. My Accuracy was not that good in the trees. I think the best I got was 60'. If you get a better reading on the cache site let me know. It should be easy to find though. If you want a hint check below.

This is an ammo can full of garden supplies. Be sure to take pictures and log of any flowers or animals that you might see on the way to and from the cache site. As always when in the woods watch out for bears.

 Hints

Turn off the trail at N 37°55.032 W 104°58.561 When you see the clearing head up towards the cache site. Its not where you think its to the right a bit.

Wow, we sure didn't expect so much snow and ice on the trail. Wished we had yaktrax with us. En route to the cache we met two guys walking their goats! Amazing what you see sometimes when you're out in the woods. We approached the cache from a different direction than suggested and finally spotted it. It's about 50 ft from GZ! The last signature in the log book was from October 2016! Hmm... Beautiful area. We will be back in a different season to hike this trail a bit further. We left 2 TBs to entice more cachers to visit. Tftc.

Me and my son made the trip up from Denton, TX to this area to hike the Greenhorn Mountain trail here. I had done some backpacking in the Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness back in 1979. Back then there were no GPS receivers and cell phones. All we had was a compass, topo map, and a whistle in case we got lost. LOL

After my GPS settled down under the trees I was within 10ft of GZ and we spent about 30 minutes exploring all the nooks and crannys within about a 60ft radius. Being at the end of the day and the sun getting ready to set we called off the search and headed back to the trail head.

My wife and I were wanting to do some moderate hike and this one fit the bill. I was surprised to see that the cache hadn't been logged in almost a year, and that of course the area from the spoilers didn't look the same this year as they did then - yes, I used the spoilers as my better half hate to wait another while search.

Great hike and fun cache.

Beautiful area! Trail is washed out in a lot of places and pretty hard to follow. I ended up fording the creek a couple times on my 3 mile hike up, but was able to follow the trail a little better on the way down. Fun cache! After this and yesterday's cache with a terrain rating of 4 I'm starting to wonder if a terrain rating of 5 requires you to place your own protection. :) SL. TN. Left Mississippi John Hurt CD and Peace Geocoin proxy.

Not so Bueno! First .1 of trail nice. Great bridge. Second .4 formerly a trail converted to a ditch was doable. Last 500 feet of "trail" before cache totally GONE! Raging creek kept me from attempting to go any further. Bummer. ZK

We had fun hiking today. A lot of water running down the creek. Took a bit of searching but we found it.

Thanks,
