Significant hike

A beautiful hike through forests and above timberline takes you to Hope Lake and beyond.
This cache is placed above Hope Lake, just below the pass over to South Mineral Creek.  There are spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.  The cache is near the top of a rock outcropping a short distance from the trail, under a lip, behind rocks.

This was my end game, today, but just didn't make it. The thunderclouds rolled in at the lake and we just weren't able to out hike them. Thank you for placing a cache here. Even if we didn't make it today, we will make it back here.

We concur with ktTris, but will add that not only a jeep, but any SUV with high clearance like a CR-V, Rav-4 or Chevy Tahoe will get one to the trailhead. We have also seen standard size pick-up trucks parked at the trailhead. A 4X4 is helpful, but not necessary. We have not driven beyond the trailhead. Be sure to watch for the trailhead sign at a sharp curve in the road. Parking is limited.

I don't understand Outdoor Lover's log. A jeep will get you to the trailhead; then the only option is to go by foot, or perhaps horse.

Caution if you're driving - We drove within 2.9 miles and the road gets narrow, steep and rocky. More of a jeep road and not a road we"re comfortable with our 4x4 dually. Had to turn back. If you try driving, better to have a jeep. Even better to hike it. There is parking at the trailhead across from the campground.

Our favorite trail! We first hiked to Hope Lake in 1987. Since then, we've made the trek 9 more times, but we've never gone further than the lake. When ktTris noted this new cache and asked if we'd like to do the hike with her, we jumped at the chance. Thanks for encouraging us to hike to the saddle. Awesome views!
