17 June 2023, 11:00 - 12:00

This is an official Maker Magic event !

We have TWO small covered pavilions that are next to each other reserved for the event, each with one picnic table:

At the event, we will discuss cache quality and/or cache creation.  Specifically:

Placing a new geocache -- we will discuss and I will have several show-and-tell items:

Different types of geocaches, to include the difference between a mystery cache and a multi cache.

Location:  Public property, private property.  528 foot limit and how to make SURE your spot is OK for a new cache before submitting it for publication.

Container size and type:  I will have several containers for the demonstration -- micro, small, regular, large and "other".  I will also have several different sized "official geocache" stickers.  Do you need to place a sticker/label on your new cache?

Logbook/logsheet -- which one to use?  Pencil or pen -- which is better?

What goes into the new geocache besides the log and a writing stick?  We will discuss swag and trackables.

What does NOT go into a geocache?

What is and what is not allowed on the geocache webpage?

Your responsibility as a geocache owner.

BONUS discussion:  My trackable went missing !  How do I make a copy/proxy tag, and what do I do on the webpage for the "original" trackable?  How do I get my copy/proxy tag back into the game?

Details, which will also be updated as the event date approaches:

First Geocaching event in Woodland Park in 2023 !

By attending this event and logging “Attended” you will earn the "Maker Magic" event souvenir on your Profile page on geocaching.com

Glenn of the 3 Williams Kidz geo-team will be hosting a one hour event at Memorial Park in Woodland Park at a covered gazebo at the posted coordinates.  You do not have to stay for the entire hour.

If you discover trackables, you have the opportunity to get the very rare tattoo icon on your Public Profile Trackables page, as Glenn will show you the tattoo on his left arm that has a trackable code in it -- Not all thosE who Wander are loSt (TB7019)

This is the trackable tattoo icon:

There will be a logsheet for you to sign (not required, but you can sign it if you wish) and each geocacher/geo-team WILL get at least one item for free !  Yes -- FREE !!!  As with all 3 Williams Kidz events, there is NOTHING to buy, not even raffle tickets (because there isn't a raffle) but you will get something geocaching related at no cost.

This is a very nice park with a small lake, picnic tables (that may all be taken, except the one that I will be reserving) and a playground for the youngsters.

Following the presentation on creating a geocache and very similar to our previous events, we will be conducting a FREE giveaway of stuff as our way of saying "Thank you for attending our event".  Since the "draw a card" random giveaway has worked well in the past, let's do the same again, and also with the same two grand prizes.

FREE STUFF:  Based on the number of cachers that log "Will Attend", I will have geocaching related things to give away; there will be TWO "grand prizes" -- a one year Premium Membership to geocaching (extension if you are already a Premium Member) and a one year subscription to FTF Geocacher magazine (extension if you already subscribe).

How to conduct a fair giveaway:  Say 15 people log "Will Attend".  At the event, I will have a bucket full of bison tubes and a deck of cards.  Each bison tube will have a slip of paper with a number on it, to determine who goes first, second, etc.  I get two aces and 13 other cards, not aces.  YOU see all the cards.  Then, they get turned over and mixed up on the table where everyone can see them getting mixed up and then moved apart.  In order based on the number in the bison tube you selected, YOU pick a card.  If you draw an ace, you win a grand prize !  If you draw any card other than an ace, you pick from the other FREE items.  After you draw a card, that card is removed from the pile, they get mixed up again for everyone to see, and the next geocacher/geo-team that has not yet drawn a card that wants to draw a card does so.

After both aces are drawn, there is no need to continue drawing cards but each geocacher/geo-team that attends will get a gift.  After each geocacher/geo-team gets ONE gift, other members of a geo-team can take something from the gifts that remain.  Example:  Dad and the 3 Williams Kidz attend (4 people); they get ONE gift during the card draw.  After each of the geocacher/geo-teams get ONE gift, the other members of 3 Williams Kidz and other geo-teams get a gift, until they are all gone.  Hoarding is discouraged.

I will have more items to give away than the number of "Will Attend" log entries, so that each geocacher/geo-team that shows up will get at least one item for free.

Some of the prizes that will be given away (all trackables are new and unactivated):

Grand Prize #1:  One year Geocaching Premium Membership (extension if you are already a Premium Member)

Grand Prize #2:  One year membership to FTF Geocacher magazine (6 issues, extension if you already have a subscription)

FTF Geocacher magazine current edition magazine along with a Trackable Gold Seal and swag pack -- THANKS to the great folks at FTF Geocacher magazine for their donation to this event !

New and unused geocaching containers of different sizes, along with logbooks/logsheets, pencils and pencil sharpeners

Aluminum telescoping hiking stick

Signal the Frog POM Beanie (new and never worn)

Awesome event! And, you timed it perfectly before the rain started!
Nice to have a review of geocaching rules and regulations. Very good explanation.
The surplus of prizes was amazing! So many things to choose from so no one felt left out.
I even got the nearby Snag the Tag!
Thank you, Glenn, for your generosity and adding so much to the geocaching community.

Another informative and prize-filled 3 Williams Kidz event. It was great seeing so many familiar faces there, and there were a lot of first - timers as well. The storms held off during the event, but it was hailing like crazy driving down Ute Pass afterwards. Thanks to Glenn for the fun.

Thanks for hosting this amazing event. We enjoyed listening to Glenn's discussion about caching. Lots of freebies to be had. Everyone left with a prize. Even the weather cooperated. Thanks for everything!
