This your typical ammo box. Hidden above Westcliffe, CO.
Take Hermit Lake Rd. West and when you come to the fork in the road, turn left, there will be a sign that says Hermit Pass. At this point you are approximately 2.55 miles from the parking area. This road is not steep but it is rocky and you might need some ground clearance. It gets worse the farther you go up.

The parking area (38° 06.23N 105° 36.28W) is a real nice picnic area. Now you are only .22 from the cache. There are a few different trails around here. Just follow the stream; this will take you past a really nice waterfall. When you are about .1 away you will have to leave the trail. The trail and the non-trail are fairly easy. Our 3 year old hiked the whole thing with just a little help over big rocks. The cache is jam-packed with good stuff.

This is a great area to explore. Hermit Lake is great for fishing or photos. If you can make it keep going up the road and you’ll be above timberline. There is another lake up there. Another good attraction is access to the Rainbow Trail. Scott has rode from the Sand Dunes to Poncho Pass, above Salida, CO, on this trail.

Not that easy of a hike. Watch out for the bees near one of the big rocks about 100 from gz, got 4 stings. Found it though before the bee encounter. Great area, plan to camp someday around here. TFTC

It was quite a challange, but very fun. The clues given were very supportive to location. Forgot to carry in my exchange item. I will be working with friends on how to conduct a search. At that time I will make an excange. Kind of liked the yellow truck. TFTC CW Scout Rode horse close to location. [Westcliffe Local] 1st individual find.

Had a great time doing the JEEP thing up the mountain. Went up to Horse shoe lake and had a picnic lunch. Took lots of photos. Most people probably will never see this area because it is so remote.

On the way down stopped to look for the cache. Found the waterfall. More great pictures. GPSr was bouncing all over the place. Actually had 3. 1 was old and couldn't get a signal down in the valley. The other 2 were sending us basically in the same direction but we ended up on the wrong side of the stream.

It was getting dark and since we were not locals, we thought it best to let this one go rather then get caught on the mountain in the dark. Oh well the bugs found a home in other caches. But it would have been nice to leave some here just to see how long it would take them to move.
