The cache is accessible by ATV/UTV, 4wd vehicles, dirt bikes, mtn bikes, and horses. Begin at FR 254 on hwy 65 near Jumbo Reservoir, then FR 254 1B. Not suitable for minivans and SUV's. It is rocky and muddy a large portion of the way. The cache is hidden near the cabin at Bull Creek #5 Reservoir. It is approximately 5.9 miles to the cabin and if you continue on to Kitson Reservoir it is approximately another 8.0 miles. Have fun and go prepared.
small rectangular snap-tight container painted OD green. Congratulations to Sioux Moon and Booboospal on their FTF. Thanks Sioux Moon for pointing out an alternate route to the cache. It brings to mind that for other horse folks that you could probably also access FR254 from the Griffiths Lakes as well.

Have been in the processes of attempting to log every single cache on the western half of Grand Mesa for some time. Logged "Where the Bear Goes in the Woods" some months ago but did not have an ATV at the time so were thinking of from the general area "Easterly" of the highway westward.

Since then was loaned the use of an ATV for the summer AND we decided to log Leon Peak for our 700th cache so now are attempting ALL caches on Grand Mesa. With what we have found over the last two weekends (these logs - some a bit late) we still have 5 to go. Of those 5, one was just replaced and is now a sure thing, 3 we have DNFed and think 2 of them are gone (not found in over 2 yrs) and have a hint on the 3rd, that leave only one other way up in the NE to get.

Not sure we will make it before the snow flies but with the ATV we sure have been having fun seeing the expanse of back country off road GRAND Mesa! We want to thank all the Geocachers who have set so many in far flung places that we have had to go to and learned so much of the history of the mesa in the process - not to mention having set several dozen of our own while doing it! At the same time - with the support of the visitor center rangers - we have set several Earthcaches and will be holding an International Earthcache Day Event at Land of Lakes Overlook (Island Lake) on the 12th and have been in a frenzy getting ready for that and several 5k run routes!

We enjoyed this particular cache as it was the only single solitary cache to get us out here to experience this particular trail and see this old cow camp cabin. Looks like the cabin still sees a bit of use by backpackers as a sleepover on occasion. Cache and "log" in good shape, coords dead on. TFTC SL visited TBs

Out trying out the new side by side. Guess this is kind of a FTF (for this year anyway!) Can't believe more people aren't finding these geo's!!!! This one hasn't been found (or logs of any kind) for over a year!

Found fairly quickly, however the cache site has been used as a latrine and a trash dump; a rather unpleasant end to an otherwise nice hike. We hiked the 7-1/2 mile round-trip from the Lake of the Woods trailhead. The wildflowers were at their peak and the bugs tolerable, making for a fine day. Interesting cabin. TNLN. SL.

Just a fine day for hiking and caching on the mesa. I don't know where the mosquitos were today. Apparently hiding out. Made for a pleasant day. TFTC
