A 45 minute drive on a narrow, winding county road.  Cache is close to roadway.
At the North edge of Salida on Hwy 291 turn onto County Road 175 directly across from the hospital entrance.  Follow CR 175 for 8 miles and then bear left (NW) onto County Road 185 following the sign that says Turret 4 Miles.  In 2 miles you will pass the water-filled quarry and there is a sign that says Turret 2 miles, make this left turn up the steep hill onto County Road 184 toward Turret.  After cresting the hill with the magnificient view of the mountains watch for the coordinates and a closed road on your left (West).  You should see a tree that was topped in the late 1890's or early 1900's with a cross-beam attached to the top.  This was the method used to run a telephone line into the Town of Turret (now a ghost town and summer home area).  Turret was named for the castle-like rock formations and is located in Cat Gulch, another mile or so farther along this CR 184.  Worth the drive and another couple of caches in the area.

Beautiful day hiking and exploring with Lemonheadmafia. Looks like this poor tree has taken a hit from lightning too. Tftc!

Great ride up the mountains to see the colors, get off the beaten path, and camp and 4WD. Not to mention grab some caches and take short hikes.

Thanks, Llamacamper2. Went out today to hopefully get a new souvenir for finding a 'favorites' cache. We then went on to drive up around Turret.....had some rain and saw two bucks and a doe, so the trip was worth it.
