A 45 minute drive on a narrow, winding county road and then a short hike to the rock formation known as, Swinging Rock, the Turret Trademark. At the North edge of Salida, turn off Hwy 291 across from the hospital onto CR 175, 8 miles and bear left onto CR 185, 2 miles and make a left uphill onto CR 184, 2 miles to the historic ghost town of Turret. Turn right (East) onto Turret Avenue, one block and make first left onto N. Spring St. to sign for Swinging Rock parking area on right. Follow trail with carins to Swinging Rock; described in an 1889 guide as a "short but strenuous hike to get the obligitory photograph." Ammo box container has "Echos of Cat Gulch" brief history of Turret and wooden nickel to The Sample Room Saloon in Turret (closed 1920) for the First to Find. Amazing view of several 14ers along the Continental Divide so do bring your camera.
04/27/2019 By YamaGypsy Definitely my favorite of the day! Too bad they have buttoned up this town so much you can't explore, but I loved the short hike to this cache. We checked out the mine nearby, but it didn't go far. Sl, thanks!
08/05/2018 By Dean & Chris Whew! It helps to just follow the cairns. Beautiful photo op at the top. Don't you just love finding an ammo box? The mine entrance got us curious, but we didn't explore it any further. Thanks for bringing us up here.

02/28/2017 By 64 Special Awesome view--even with the clouds hiding the 14ers! Thanks!'
