For 12 years my brother-in-law, Nord, put in for a Bighorn Sheep hunting license. Each year he was unsuccesful but he scouted every year. When he finally drew he knew the area well. Weeks before the season opened he gathered all his equipment together that he would need for a FIVE day hunt and weighed it, replacing heavier items with lighter ones. He got the pack down to 80 lbs. including spotting scope, weapon. knife, tent, sleeping bag and food. The day before the hunt he had his wife drop him off at the Ute Creek Trailhead at 5 AM. The first 30 feet were down hill but that was about the only level or downhill the rest of the day. He got to the place where he wanted to set up camp 12 hours later. It being 5 PM he thought he'd rest for a few minutes prior to eating and going to bed. He just layed down when he thought he must have died as he heard female voices singing. He looked out and saw a Girl Scout troop walking by. From them he found out there was an old miners road no longer on any maps and only about 200' from his camp. Twelve hours with 80 lbs on his back and he could have driven there in just a couple of hours. It all ended well thhough,as he has an almost full curl RAM mounted in his home.

The Mixed Breed ver 2.0 (Sir Barney) and I traveled from St. Louis to Longmont to visit a friend who lives there. One of my goals (my friend is a muggle), was to visit Tarryall. So today we headed down that way. Of course, I couldn't just drive straight there when there were caches along the way so we stopped at a few. I tried to pick ones that might also interest my friend. This was one of our stops. The item that contained the cache has fallen over and some maintenance might be needed. Loved the story.

Found on our second attempt following a generous hint from the owner. Unfortunately it was frozen in place so couldn't retrieve but will return on a warmer day!

We’re in the area camping at the Cripple Creek KOA with my brother and his wife and spent today caching and sightseeing with them and the Geowinnies. We did our must do on the list first and that was Colorado’s oldest, Tarryall. Then we drove up to Fairplay and made a loop back to Cripple Creek and Victor getting a few caches along the way. It was a sunny day and we really enjoyed Colorado’s beautiful scenery.

Thanks go buffs for this cache, the smiley and for adding to our fun and adventurous day in Colorado. Loved this one for the hide and the view!
