The Switzerland Trail has two branches that pass along the southern and northern slopes of Bald Mountain, a Ranked Peak in Boulder County that attains a height of 9,147 feet. At the time this cache was placed, more than a dozen other geocaches existed along the Switzerland Trail; most are easily grabbed while driving the trail’s roads in a high clearance vehicle.

“Above The Others” is, indeed, above these other caches–several hundred feet of elevation above them. You will need to locate a reasonable place to park, and then you’ll need to make a fairly steep hike to the summit area of Bald Mountain. The top is a flattened dome.

You won’t be disappointed. The views from the summit are superb! After you’ve been there, you will reflect back on your experience and fondly recall your hike and the awesome scenery you’ve witnessed. And heck, in addition to the marvelous views and the great hike, you’ll be able to sign the log of a backcountry geocache! It might take a bit of searching in order to locate this micro, but the reward will be worth the search. So have fun!

I was last here a little less than six months ago. I didn't find the cache back then, but after some encouraging words from the cache owner I figured I would eventually return and give the hide another go. I was still a little unsure about whether the container had survived the three winters that have passed since it was last found. I imagine it sometimes gets pretty windy up here, given its baldness (actually, this mountain isn't really bald. Maybe just half bald, on the east side).

Anyway, took the same route as last time, starting from near Sugarloaf and riding my bike along the Switzerland Trail until reaching the trail for Bald on the far west side. The trail is still steep and I was sucking air soon after starting. The views alone make the climb up worth it. But this time, I also get to claim a smiley :) The log looks a little worse for wear but I was able to sign my name without any problem. I think this is the loneliest cache I have ever found.

Ah shucks. This cache was more or less the reason I decided to come out here today. No finds since 2012? Not even an attempt?! Well, now there has been an attempt, but still no find.

I'm new to the area and haven't heard of the Switzerland Trail before. So the day was far from wasted. Besides, I found a handful of caches on the way here. The cache size is indicated as 'small' but the description says its a micro, so I wasn't really sure what to believe. There are plenty of hiding spots for both, depending on how evil of a hide it is.

There are some piles of branches nearby, and the tree at GZ had a haircut at some point, but it's hard to tell if that work pre-dated the last find or not. If I can get some guidance from the CO or previous finders I shall return, otherwise I'll be watching to see if anyone else can come up with the cache.

Fun side trip after checking off the Boco ranked peak. TFTC! I'll have to find more of your caches as I work on the Boco peak list.
