5 Logs: Found it 5

I hadn't really intended to go for this one today, even though it's been on my list for quite some time. I had planned to get The Roundhouse, but couldn't find it (again), so I threw caution to the wind and made the long hike upwards through the wind and some snow. I stuck with the trail until I was on top of the ridge, then walked across the meadow to the cache site. Took me a little over two hours to get there.

Boy, was it windy! I had to be very careful how I handled the cache since it would be all too easy to fumble the contents with my cold hands and have them blow away; I could barely write in the log. Carolyn must have been very special to earn such a rugged memorial. She sure has a spectacular view! I left her a bandanna and a rain poncho, for which she gave me a nickel. ;)

I put on my spikies and took the shortcut straight down off the ridge back to the trail, then continued on back to the big meadow, where I spent some time looking for Crosier's fireplace (no luck). Now I'm completely wiped out. Thanks for a memorable hike!

Beautiful stroll down the meadow on a bright, sunny Colorado day. Doesn't get any better. SL TFTC

The forecast for today was for snow to move into the high country mid-afternoon so I decided today's hike would be fairly close to home. I have had this cache on my target list for some time now and even though I've been all over this mountain many times logging all of the Tahosa caches, it hadn't worked out to go after it. So today was the day to make the trek. I also had several caches near the Glen Haven trailhead that I hadn't logged so I parked at that trailhead. So needless to say, the route I took involved more miles and elevation than the route depicted on the cache page. This cache was the first one I logged today, the others I did on the way back out.

This location offers amazing views from the west to the south. It's a wonderful spot for a tribute to Carolyn. I never met Carolyn, as I moved to Colorado after her passing, but I've hiked many miles with Denali41 and have heard many stories of her and her accomplishments. I know he misses her greatly. Thanks Team Laxson for this tribute to her.

Hiked for 7 hrs today, mostly off-trail, bagging 5 caches that were on my list. Lovely weather and mountain. Saw a Bobcat and a kestrel, but strangely enough, also 2 humans who were also wandering off-trail. All the caches were in great shape and dry. Took a few items, left a few items. Thanks everyone! This was the last and best one of today. Had my eyes on this one for some time. Now my feet have taken me there. Great side trip from the main trail.

That was a long hike, but worth the effort. Beautiful views on the trail and at the top. The trail had 4 inches of snow and the mull had at least 8".

This is the only visit the cache got in 2011. It's too bad, this is a great hike with a cache reward!
