Near Stanley Reservoir.
*KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER. IT CAN CHANGE VERY QUICKLY; ESPECIALLY FROM OCTOBER TO MAY.* This is a beautiful spot to hike, camp, picnic or fish. The fall colors are stunning and usually peak around October 1st. Stanley Reservoir is generally accessed from the Air Force Academy or Schubarth Trail. Bring a gps and fishing pole, and enjoy the great outdoors. Take extra caution when trying to access this during the winter months. photo tyler.jpg

Spent the weekend camping at the former reservoir with Boy Scout Troop 79. Still a great place to camp but I miss the views. I’ve been meaning to get up to SkyMoose’s cache for three years now. Well, finally got to it. The cache is in good shape and waiting for more visitors.

Spending some time with fearthefish, KJKlock and BackCountryHorseman in a little hike today. Weather couldn’t have been more perfect today for our short adventure. It was quite different not having fearthefish talking much while we were out.

KJKlock already had found this and stood back and watched us.

Found GCJMCT - Here Fishy, Fishy, on November 1, 2017 using Cachly for iOS.

Some may call me seriously mentally ill. Some may state that I am in a state of mind that prevents social interaction. Some may say I am in a state of mind that prevents normal perception and or behavior. I prefer to say that I tend to do the same thing over and over again, but I expect different results. That being said, I believe we only live one life and I am trying to make the best of it. I thank you, skymoose80 for placing a fun geocache to fuel my "insanity" or addiction as I call it. I appreciate you bringing me here so that I can sign my alias on a piece of paper that you have hidden.

I look forward to finding more of your geocaches. I also look forward to potentially finding geocaches with you one day and sharing stories of our insanity... I mean hobby or addiction? Cheers!

I think after today I am going to change my geo-name to TheHikingCaboose. I am convinced that the only reason why PayMeCache, Back Country Horsemen, and KJKlock brought me along is because they knew who was lunch if we came across a hungry bear.

But I digress.

Like most of our finds today, someone else found it and had it open before I could even see the container, let alone actually make it to the cache. This time it was KJKlock, who made sure we all knew that she found it. Thanks for the fun hide and for your contribution to a great day of caching and hiking.

Yes, the reservoir is completely drained now, maybe someone knows why? So no more fishy, fishy. We had already made the hike all the way up Stanley Canyon so needed to find this cache as our last of the day before we headed down. Strangely my phone took us to the wrong rock outcrop, but J found it for us as she had already found it last fall on another caching hike. My phone was reading about 55' there but maybe it was just me as it seems no one else has had this problem.
We did have to have someone with a military ID with us to make it past the 2nd check point just before the trailhead road. Otherwise I think this hike would be much easier off the Schubarth Rd through Farish, especially if you had some type of 4WD with decent clearance or even a bike to ride from the short section of the Schubarth Trail which I was able to drive to last year with my small SUV.

We hiked with UMass72, Werefish, Iamsarahscott, Kerewin0430, and the geodogs Amy and CJ today. We took trail 707 all the way up to the lake for a total of 7 miles round trip in 5 hours. This was a long and exhausting hike for us, but the accomplishment felt great. We found a handful of caches along the way including this one.

This was our last find before heading back to the parking area.

This is day 1156 of our current daily caching streak. Thanks for helping us to extend it by another day.

TFTC!
