A great opportunity for a day in the wild! This cache is hidden at Aurora Reservoir, one of several reservoir-parks in the Denver metropolitan area. This is one of seven geocaches that were placed for Aurora's celebration of National Trails Day. Four of the caches were left in place for ongoing use by the geocaching community. You can read about Aurora’s Trails Day 2010 celebration and see pictures at http://bit.ly/cMqgIS.
Things to be aware of at Aurora Reservoir:
1) The water in the reservoir is used as one of the city's drinking supplies. The dam is property of the Army Corps of Engineers. Please exercise common sense and don't do stuff that will get you in trouble.
2) Taking vehicles into Aurora Reservoir costs $10. You can bike in or walk in for free, but you will lose the convenience of having your vehicle.
3) The Reservoir-# geocaches are placed around the main reservoir loop. To do all four caches, you will have an eight mile hike.
4) There are no motorized vehicles on the trail. Don't bring one. The fine for doing so is very, very steep. Bicycles and roller-blades are welcome, though.
5) Bring a camera. You'll see beautiful things. But don't mess with the wildlife.
6) Stay on the trail as much as possible. The trail goes by all caches. The Aurora Reservoir is a wildlife reserve and a lot of creatures call it home.
7) The park opens at 5:30 AM and closes at sunset. Do not come here after dark.
8) All of the Reservoir-# geocaches were placed with Aurora Ranger supervision.
9) There are rattlesnakes at Aurora Reservoir. Please be careful! There are also a lot of bugs that would love to suck your blood. Bring sun screen and bug repellent. And make sure you have plenty of water to stay hydrated on your hike.
10) You can make a day of this trip! Aurora Reservoir has plenty of recreational activities -- hiking, biking, swimming, scuba diving, boating, fishing, archery and just lounging on the beach. Bring a picnic basket or get food at the park's concession stand.
Most importantly, HAVE FUN! That’s what geocaching is all about.
