A scenic cache on a little known or used way up Pikes Peak

Do you want to avoid the crowds on Barr trail and see a new area on Pikes Peak? Sport's Scenic Solitude provides a nice high altitude view view and is on a road that is very rarely hiked but will take you to Barr camp via the “Experimental Forest”. Just follow the road SE from the cache and you will have avoided the most heavily traveled part of Barr trail. This cache can be (obviously) reached from Barr trail by following the sign for the experimental forest and just staying on the main road or it can be reached from the Ute Indian trail (starting near the incline parking lot) or via the Waldo Canyon trail head. I think you'll find nice views and solitude at this cache.

Note, that all the roads mentioned here are closed to any motorized traffic except for specially authorized vehicles (e.g., search and rescue, or utility maintenance). If you approach from Waldo Canyon parking, do not park near the gate. If you do approach from that side, Ring the Peak Trail or the Ute Indian trail then Scout's Signpost cache (GC1T2G7) will show you the correct turn off from the main road.

The above coordinates are only accurate to 21 feet. (The terrain prevented me from getting a really accurate reading.)

As is my standard, the cache is hidden in plain sight but well camouflaged so you may see the cache container but not realize it. . There is no need to touch or disturb anything to see or find the cache.

Congratulations: First-to-find to Hartsdale!

Hi- Things are still in perfect shape so far into the game... I can't believe how much time goes by between visits on these old caches once everybody who's everybody went and got them early in their placed life!!
I made the out & back for this from the newer E66 Rocky Mountain circuit... lots of hiking on trails I've never thought about before; nice day for it!!

Came up from HW 24. I was hiking in the area so I checked on the cache. It was dry and in good shape except there is not much in there. Looking at the past logs I see that it was 9-01-2009 when I was there last . It seems like that road has gotten much steeper then it was back then! I guess my age is catching up on me! Anyway I made it to the top of the ridge and felt good about that. TFTC.

First to sign in 2013. I had just completed the nearby multi and this one was a little over 0.6 miles away all down hill. I didn't know when I would be back in the area and I wasn't sure I wanted to climb back up to the top if I proceeded. Oh well, off I went for a quick descent to the cache. My ascent was quite slow, but I did make it. TFTC.

Nice find at the end of my long hike today, and a great hike it was. Very scenic! Previous cacher uploaded pictures of the Christmas trees along the way -- I will attach a couple pictures of the candy canes I saw! Traded some swag, and dropped off a trackable of ours in its first cache -- Where, wolf? He says he will lie in wait until unsuspecting muggles come along on the trail and then he will POUNCE and eat 'em! Good thing he's up here where not many people go ...
SL, and was on my way. TFTC, and the hike!
