This cache is located at the end of Young Gulch Trail (And it is not on private property). Trail head is on the south side of Colorado Highway 14 at mile post 109.

The trail crosses the creek a number of times throughout the hike. You will soon learn the Dance of Rocks and Logs very quickly or have wet feet the whole hike. It might be a good idea to bring a change of shoes and socks. If you’re like me and have two left feet, a walking stick can be very handy. Then again, wear sandals and enjoy the cool water run around your toes. Total distance of this hike is around 8.5 miles. The trail is fairly flat with a few short climbs and descents. You hardly notice the elevation gain of about 1200 feet.

Young Gulch is also open to you mountain bilkers too. There are a few rocky and steep sections, but for the most part, it is well suited for the beginner and intermediate rider.

DO NOT CHEAT and try to access this cache from Stove Prairie Road. You will be trespassing on private property!! Just do it the right way and enjoy the hike or bike ride.

So I was excited to find a cache that hadn't been found since 2012. Well it turns out the reason it hasn't been found is because the trail has been closed since 2012. A nice gentleman said that it should be reopened next year. I recommend disabling it until then, as there is no route to get to the cache without going through private property

I've done the Dance of Rocks and Logs in Young Gulch more than a dozen times over the years, so know the dance's rhythm and moves quite well. And today's spring weather (gorgeous!) prompted special melodies of nature that were so enjoyable. I'd been intending to make this hike to the cache with my puppy Teewinot for many, many months, and have simply not taken the time to do it. So today was our day, and it was a very special day for us. On the way up the Gulch I checked on all of the containers for my multi-cache and my traditional cache in Young Gulch, and found everything to be in order. Then we continued on beyond those caches toward the trail's end, yes, toward this relatively new cache, passing below the ranked peaks on the left that Carolyn (Denali Queen) and I had climbed directly from the Gulch on a bitter cold winter day so many years ago. As I hiked today, I recalled fondly so many events with her that involved trips up Young Gulch, including the hike we made 6 years ago with my puppy Teewinot the day before Carolyn and I departed for the successful climb of Denali, in Alaska. Young Gulch was our final hike before that 3-week expedition on the immense, cold mountain. And of course I reflected as I made the hike today on how much I miss her as my climbing and backcountry geocaching partner and friend. And it got me thinking that it's time to revisit those special caches that have been created by others in her memory: Carolyn's Cache; The Mull of Crosier; Truly A Friend; and Denali Queen. I'll plan to get to the first two of these again over the next month, as long memorial hikes.

So your nice cache beckoned me; and reaching it filled me with pleasant memories while also causing me to grieve a little. Yes, it's been quite a morning. Thanks for its placement. It's a nice cache!

Wonderful hike. Had my dancing shoes on as I skipped over the water again and again.
Beautiful views.
Lots of wildflowers along the way including Pasque Flower and discovered a large cluster of Calypso Orchids (Fairy Slippers) relatively close to the cache.
