I wanted to place caches that highlight and teach others about Birds of Prey. I placed these caches where I have seen these birds. If you come to this cache and see a Bird of Prey please be sensitive and respect their privacy by keeping your distance, they do try to avoid the presence of humans – come back again at another time, but enjoy the view!
The Golden Eagle is one of two species of eagles we see in Colorado and the Continental Unites States. They are native to all continents except Antarctica. They are very well suited for life in Colorado since the are cliff dwellers. Plenty of places around here to nest, even in Garden of the Gods! They hunt small to medium sized mammals. Their favorite ‘catch of the day’ is jack rabbit!

Their golden nape is their trademark, as well as their namesake.

I’ve seen a very large female Golden Eagle here several times. The photo below was taken in early May 2013. It’s hard to see the distinguishing marks in this photo, I had to take it quick and so didn’t have time to make the photo good. But I’ve been around Golden’s quite a bit and knew what it was as soon as I saw her.

I’ve had the privilege of handling a Golden Eagle personally. He is bright, inquisitive, and very powerful!  And amazingly, he is very social. I have scratched one wish off my bucket list by being able to say I have been close and have held a Golden Eagle! What a wonderful bird. He is the King of birds!

We were heading for home today (UK) and a late flight mean't we had plenty of time for Caching. We also wanted to be fairly close to the airport these caches were perfect ;-)

Have seen a few and surprised one on day near Granby and it took off a few feet over my head. Scared the willies out of me but I could feel the breeze as it passed over my head. It's a magnificent bird. Thx!

Earlier today I went out with benj59 and heh324 to do the Russellville Road power trail. Our time was somewhat limited, yet we still managed to find over a hundred in about 3 hours.

When I got back home, I realize that I still had enough daylight to see if I could break my record for finds in a day. I somehow pulled it off and broke 150 for the day. All of these caches out here in the plains were crucial in helping me achieve this goal. Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these fun hides.

P.S. Container was damaged so I replaced it.
