What a beautiful day to be on Green Mountain! Although this cache required a slight detour, it was worth it. The views we had from all the different angles up here were awesome. A crisp, cool fall morning is the perfect time to do this hike. Sure, your nose runs a bit but I'll take that over baking in the summer sun!
This particular cache was the main target. I am in sight of completing my D/T grid and this is one of the combinations I'm missing. This ended up being the last cache I got on the mountain. After hiking over the eastern part and finding five others, this was the main prize. And definitely not easy to get to. I debated about taking the direct route from the tower, but my muggle dad who was with me preferred to stick to the trails. We wound our way down the trail and I kept checking my GPS to see the direct distance to the cache. Very slowly the numbers went down.
Finally we got to a spot where I thought I could cross with limited trouble. I still wasn't sure though exactly which hill it would be on. I trekked on off the trail with my dog while my dad headed back to the car.
Pretty quickly, the going got tough. There was snow on the ground which was tough to hike through while I was going uphill. It wouldn't have been so difficult except the snow was in a state of melting so it made everything a bit slippery.
I finally got to a trail of sorts and followed that as it wound it's way along the hillside. The final approach to GZ was pretty easy. But getting to that point definitely made it a T4.5 in my experience.
At GZ it took just a minute to spot the ammo can. After a long morning of hiking and the effort it took to get here, this felt awesome!! Always great to find an ammo can, an older cache AND one that helps you complete a challenge.
Thanks for the hide mchenot. I appreciate you keeping this cache active for everyone to enjoy.

Nice venture up the hill to he this. There is a sign that no one is heeding stating that there are potentially unexploded WW2 artillery devices in the area. I just stayed to the trail. Thank you for the placement!

Hadn't hiked up Green Mountain from this side before and the views were awesome from GZ! The trail wasn't very muddy or slippery and there were no ravines to navigate, so I must have taken the less strenuous way. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache!

I've been sort of mired for awhile in advancing my Fizzy matrix toward 20 "fills" for each of the 81 matrix cells. No unfound caches reasonably close to my home in NoCo match the few D/T combinations I need to progress toward this goal. So I ran Pocket Queries for each of the needed combinations to see what caches of each combination are within 100 miles of my home. I discovered that there are several caches in the Denver Metro area and in the mountains west of Denver that, when found, will get me to 20 Fizzy "loops". Jurassic Box has a combo satisfying one of them. So today, after icezebra11 and I played through the various stages of the marvelous new virtual cache Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.s), we headed west from downtown Denver to take a hike on Green Mountain to get after this cache. In his Found it log, icezebra11 describes the error we made in parking location that resulted in this becoming a much greater hiking challenge than it should have been! I won't repeat his description here. We eventually got to GZ and made a quick find. It's a treasure, and I'm grateful to mchenot for its placement and upkeep.

Denali41 and I drove down from the Ft Collins area to find some caches around Denver. We first spent a few hours driving around the city collecting information for the new O.W.L. virtual cache. After finishing that one, we headed for this cache to stretch our legs and stretch them we did. We don't follow instructions very well and ended up parking too far south. We climbed up to the top of the ridge andfound ourselves facing either a long, but fairly level traverse around the head of a drainage or a steep descent into a ravine followed by a steep climb up to the next ridge in order to get to the cache. We of course chose the latter option. We eventually made it to GZ and quickly found the container. Signed the log and then headed down the ridge taking a much easier route back to the car. Thanks mchenot!!!
