When geocachers attend CITO Events, they help improve the outdoors by collecting trash, planting trees, and so much more. Attending a CITO is an opportunity to build community with geocaching neighbors and leave our incredible geocaching gameboard better than how we found it; a real win-win! Read on to find out the dates for this year’s two CITO seasons and how you can earn both CITO souvenirs.

I will supply Trash Bags & some Hand Sanitizer!

Safety Suggestions

 · You should wear some form of gloves for protection. Additionally, good old trash grabbers or other pickup device can help create further separation between you and the litter. Also, don’t forget high visibility clothing, close-toed shoes, and sunscreen!

· Best practice: don’t touch the litter directly, and don’t touch your face.

· Choose your litter wisely: only pick up the litter that is safe to handle.

Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) is an environmental initiative the geocaching community supports. Since 2002, CITO has enabled geocachers to beautify and restore natural and urban spaces. In that time, there have been more than 599,000 logged attendances at nearly 33,000 events where geocachers helped improve the outdoors.

Actions often speak louder than words; from collecting trash to planting trees, and all other kinds of CITO activities, when we CITO, we make our world a better place. We build community with our geocaching neighbors and leave our incredible geocaching gameboard better than how we found it.

This year’s CITO dates are:

CITO 2023, Season 1
Wednesday, March 1 through Wednesday, May 31, 2023

CITO 2023, Season 2
Friday, September 1 through Thursday, November 30, 2023

How can I earn both CITO 2023 souvenirs?

To earn the CITO 2023, Season 1 and the CITO 2023, Season 2 souvenirs:

  • Attend or host any CITO Event during each of the two seasons.
  • Only one souvenir is available per season. However, feel free to attend or host as many CITO Events throughout the year as you wish!

We opted to drive instead of geocycling since it was thundering, lightning, and hailing one hour before the event. But it cleared up and the sun was shining for our trash pickup. Thanks for organizing this, Joe Friday!

A lot of rain on my way there, but it stopped just in time and the sun came out! Gotta love this weather! Thanks for hosting!

Thank everyone for showing up. The rain and hail made it questionable but it cleared up enough. It was a nice cool afternoon.

Had a good turn out. Had to wait for the rain, hail, rain and more rain. Lots of bags were gathered

Thanks Joe Friday was a “fun” event

Thanks for hosting this event joe. I'm glad that the weather finally cleared up so that we can do this. It was pretty questionable there for a while!
