Placed this cache on grand opening day at Staunton State Park. This is the first cache placed in this state park! I live close and have been waiting for years for this park to open and had to be there opening day and hide a cache!
You are looking for a black tape covered matchstick holder. Please close lid well after logging and wedge it back where you found it so it does not wonder off! It is a short distance off the Mason Creek Trail about 3/4 of a mile up the trail from the south parking lot/trail head.
This cache is located within Staunton State Park, which has one public entrance along S. Elk Creek Road, six miles west of Conifer, about 1.5 miles off U.S. Highway 285. Parking along either side of S. Elk Creek Road and Upper Ranch Road adjacent to the park boundary is prohibited. All vehicles entering the park must have a daily park pass ($7) or a CO state park annual pass. Hours of operation vary by season, and no overnight parking is permitted. During summer weekends, the park may reach capacity, and cars are allowed to enter only if a parking space is available. Horse trailers are admitted if space is available for parking trailers. Information about the park can be found at http://www.cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/staunton . All visitors must follow park rules and regulations. These include dogs on leash at all times, clean up after pets, travel on developed trails, no fires away from the developed area, leave no trace, respect areas closed for resource management, and be careful around wildlife (especially mountain lions, coyotes, and black bears). Fishing is allowed in park waters, but license and limit regulations must be followed. No motorized vehicles are allowed on trails. Pack your own trash out of the back country, and trash receptacles are located near the parking areas. Also, be prepared for changing weather, bring adequate water and footwear, and trails may be snow-covered or icy in winter.

01/21/2019 By LostinDenver This one hurt. Wish I would have checked previous logs before trying for it. I dug the windblown snow away from the rocks without luck. I as I came around the edge, I tripped and fell on a stick, causing my knee to smack a rock. I also didn't realize it then, but it made my pen break in my pocket. No luck for me today.
10/22/2018 By geoski Two of us, one of whom had successfully located this cache on previous visit several years ago, hunted for quite some time but were unable to locate this cache.
08/26/2018 By suzmorg Found with Lisa and Mark. Their first geotrip. Lisa spotted the cache. She has geo eyes.
08/18/2018 By rolfdenver This is my Staunton First as well. Cache is in fine shape; good coordinates and hint. (Yes, I’m not too proud ...) I’m looking for caches with Sadie while my son is biking with the Arapahoe High School Mountain Bike Team.
