Situated near the start of the Lakewood Gulch multi-use trail, the 12.16-acre Joseph P. Martinez Park serves as a vital destination and link between the west denver and the broader open space network, and nearby destinations.

The park had fallen in disrepair but in 2019 Denver started a rejuvenation project to upgrade this park and finished in 2020. A new memorial to honor Private Joseph P. Martinez who was the first Hispanic American to receive the Medal of Honor during WWII in the Aleutian Islands.

I was out on a bike ride to pick up something at REI and turned it into a nice 15-mile geocycle ride. I remember when Tricia and I first "discovered" this park when we decided to try the path off of Lakewood Gulch. It's a real gem! TFTC and the fun hunt.
