Doug Ingram, Mt. Everest, May 21, 2013
Doug is the Senior Director of International Games on the U.S. Olympic Committee. He is known to us geocachers as kenyansherpa. Doug deserves a tribute cache more than any person we know, and yet he is the last person who would want one. There is something very impressive about a person who is a born leader and motivator and yet is truly a humble person. Are we making you uncomfortable yet, Doug? One of his co-workers in the USOC wrote “among his amazing achievements, his leadership comes from a core humility and faith in his team that makes people under him want to achieve great things.” After summiting a few 14ers with him, we couldn’t agree more.
Talking about summits…the Seven Summits are the highest peaks on each continent. Doug has summited 5 of those 7…Everest being one of them. For five decades Doug worked to achieve his childhood dream of climbing Mt. Everest and nothing deterred him. His training regimen alone would deter most people.
WingsandTales said “There are a lot of labels that apply to Doug: leader, mountaineer, mentor, family man, but I think ‘coach’ is the one that fits the best. He has done big things in his life, but his biggest accomplishment is the way he lifts up the people around him.”
Ernie66 said “What stands out to me is his down-to-earth ‘it’s nothing’ personality. He’s done and won many local events, including the Pikes Peak Ascent and Quad Marathon. I’m sure we’re only scratching the surface of his accomplishments.”
OK. We’ve tortured him enough. Just know that we all consider ourselves better people for having known this man.
