Joseph Bainbridge Doyle, one of the founders of Fort Pueblo; bought 2 square miles of the Huerfano Valley in 1859 from Cornelio Vigil and Ceran St. Vrain. He built a big white house on his land and called it "Casa Blanca"
In 1859 he hired Oscar J. Goldrich as a school teacher to teach his children.
