If you like hiking miles to the middle of nowhere to look for a cache the size of a pencil eraser, then this one is not for you. ;-)

Still miles from nowhere, but the cache is a MACRO ... opposite of a micro. As yet there is not much in this area. There are several ways to get there. Here are three:
1) You can make this a long, very nice, hike from Stanley Canyon. Before you get to the reservior go north on the trail that begins at N38 59.499, W104 55.296. Take that 1.75 miles north to N39 00.265 W104 55.711. Walk that to N39 00.512 W104 56.441. You’re on your own from there.

2) You can drive in from the intersection of Rampart Range Road and Loy Gulch Road. If you do so, please DO NOT PARK AT THE TRAILHEAD. Rather park 500 feet away at N39 00.529 W104 56.532. This seems to be one of those trails not many people know about. It would be a good idea to keep it that way. Very nice trail for a mountain bike. The trailhead to the cache from the south is at N39 00.512 W104 56.441.

3) A third way in from the east and north of USAFA. Many have done this route...approximately 3.5 miles each way. It might be worth taking a mountain bike up so you can coast down, but you will be pusing the bike a lot on the way up. Coordinates are pretty accurate. Park off Tapadero Drive at 39 02.530, 104 54.220 just north of the USAFA boundary. Hike to 39 02.450N, 104 54.245W, then 39 01.724N, 104 55.182W. Once you get to the top of Deadman's creek, you will open up into a meadow between some peaks. Hike generally WNW along Jeep trails. You are looking to head towards MACRO from the south along a trail that starts off a Jeep trail at 39 01.713N, 104 55.821W. This trail is shown on the Pikes Peak Atlas, it also takes you directly to usfs girl's Thinking Spot. You might want to combine this with your search for The Falcon Challenge. If you go from Stanley Canyon, you will hike near 5 of the 11 legs.

This cache will be very tough to get to after the first snowfall, but the trails are good. Snowshoes and/or gaiters are advised.

I stood on a rock next to the cache to get the coordinates. Easy find once you get to it. If you come from Stanley Canyon, the terrain value goes up to 4.

Got it on a quick hike after a great ride on the road. Bits of it were tight for my longer truck. TFTC!

I hiked to the cache from the Stanley Canyon trail. It was a long hike, but not too strenuous. Waypoints were extremely helpful. Cache is in great shape and the views were amazing. TFTC

I've driven down this road before so I assumed I'd be able to make it again. Got to a particularly snowy spot and with bald tires we slid down the hill. No idea how we'd get back up that hill I decided to hike to the caches and hope someone would come by to help. This was the first one. Half mile from the car. Wind was strong and I realized we weren't equipped for the 3mile round trip that it would take for the rest of the caches. Met up with a truck and explained the dilemma. They agreed to help us and we rode with them back to my truck. Luckily, it wasn't as bad as I thought and we soon had my vehicle free. At least we got one cache today! Sl, thanks!

Perfect day for a drive in the woods! This cache has been on my to-do list for awhile now and I’m so glad I got out and did it. I was joined by my son Jack. The waypoints for this cache (parking and trailhead) were a little misleading. I went right past both and continued my drive up the trail and was able to get within 250 ft of GZ. Easy drive too.

I am tired of micros, so it was a no-brainer that I would try for this cache while exploring the Schubarth Trail. I may not have had a epic Vort hike to get here, but I still had a blast all the same. Despite Rob14erGuy's best attempts at camouflage, I managed to spot the cache while cresting a nearby rock formation. When I saw it, I kind of stood there dumbfounded for a moment. After the initial shock wore off, the first thing that came to my mind was, "lol, is it time for hot chow...out here?!?!?" Those with military experience have seen this kind of container before. The container and contents are still in great shape...almost nine years later. I wish my caches could do that... While I have seen containers this big, and bigger before, this has to be one of the best logbooks ever. This looked like a classic Commander's Daily Intel Readbook...complete with the Vorticity classification stamp. Since you don't often find a cache container that you can sit on, I setup a field expedient photo studio and took a victory photo. In all of the fumbling with the camera, I kind of forgot to strike a appropriate pose. So no, I was not grumpy for finding the cache. While logging, I noticed that this cache was 16 months lonely. While this was not my motivation for coming here today, it certainly was a nice bonus. Counting only caches that have been lonely for a year or more, to include this cache, I now have "lonely time" for 59 years, 2 months on 37 caches in 11 states and provinces. Thanks to the CO for founding this cool spot, placing this nice cache for everyone to find, and lugging this thing out here for our geo-amusement ; TFTC.

Now, this is my kind of cache! I definitely prefer the larger containers and beautiful views to boot.
This was so big, I left a regular sized cache, all ready to go, inside of it.
Left a pine cone on top for camouflage!

Found with JavaChip. Nice cache… At first it looked like it might be someones lost luggage from DIA! :) TFTC!

SwimFin found this cache quickly and in good shape. Took the Navy football, left a signature dolphin key chain, a link puzzle and a USA Swimming pin, SL. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. Cheers, SwimFin.
