Native American Tribe series.
Bear River

There are at least two tribes by this name. The first is a tribe mentioned by Lawson (N.C. 383, 1860) as living in North Carolina in 1701, and having then a single village, Raudauquaquank, with 50 warriors. According to Hawks (Hist. N.C., 1858-59) they lived in Craven County, probably on a branch of the Neuse.

The second is a tribe in California mentioned by Lawson and associated with Algonquian tribes. They may have been a part of the Machapunga. Rights (1947) calls them the Bear River or Bay River Indians. Lawson (1709) gives the name of their town as Raudauqua-quark and estimates the number of fighting at 50. Mooney (1928) places them with the Pamlico in his estimate as of the year 1600 and gives the two a population of 1,000.

ISo every year the Jersey Guys set out on a caching adventure. This year we flew out to Denver, CO and drove to 12 states, covered over 3400 miles, grabbed a few of the older caches along with the oldest in MINGO. We had eight days to do it and saw a lot of cool country. Our path took us from Denver to WY, Utah, Idaho, Montana, ND, SD, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missou11361ri and then Kansas, back to Denver. It was a great trip and we found a lot of caches along the way. We thank everyone who placed them, when possible we replaced missing or broken cache containers. The rest of the group posted most of their logs along the way so I hope no one minds this GSAK log. I will go back as needed and supply favorite points as well as any needed photos or answers. Thanks again for all you have done to keep our adventures fun and exciting by supplying and maintaining so many fun hides.

LIve Wire 77 and I caching the eastern plains to finish up the Hidden Creatures goal of 100. We found 35 of 35, only needed 31. My favorite place to cache; beautiful views, dirt roads, and wide open spaces. Thank you for placing this cache so we could enjoy the game. sl

TFTH! Looks like someone found the cattle guard crossing sign a good target! It’s full of bullet holes. Little water in canister but cache log was dry.
