THIS SERIES IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR 2WD CITY CARS. While it was easy in our unmodified '91 Jeep Cherokee, there were a few spots where a 2WD car may not make it.
The kid friendly Loopey Tunes series of geocaches are named after the popular cartoon series and because they are on the loop of Ice Cave Creek Road (Forest Service Road (FSR) 324) and Winding Stairs Road (FSR 323).
Recommend starting the loop at N 39° 06.187 W 105° 01.566. This is the beginning of the Ice Cave Creek Road (FSR 324). This loop is just under 8 miles total on dirt roads, not trails. There are very few motorized vehicles on these roads, so mountain biking or even hiking are good alternatives to driving. Depending on your chosen mode of transportation, it is recommended that you prepare for the 8 miles and take water, snacks, sunscreen, etc. The loop is north of Woodland Park off Rampart Range Road and is subject to lots of snow and ice during the winter.
All 8 geocaches are ammo cans. Each of the first seven are traditional caches that have a very simple puzzle in the container -- if you can identify the 14 characters below and do very simple math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) then you can accomplish this series.
6 of the first 7 caches will have a puzzle such as:
HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART !!! TAKE THIS LIST OF VALUES WITH YOU, but if you forget to, there are printouts of these values in the #1 cache.
Bugs Bunny = 1
Daffy Duck = 0
Elmer Fudd = 1
Foghorn Leghorn = 1
Marvin the Martian = 3
Pepe Le Pew = 8
Porky Pig = 6
Road Runner = 5
Speedy Gonzales = 8
Sylvester = 2
Taz (the Tasmanian Devil) = 9
Tweety = 1
Wile E Coyote = 4
Yosemite Sam = 3
So for this example, you get X = 2
The final geocache is located at N 39 05.ABC W 105 01.DEF
6 of the first 7 geocaches will give you letters A through F for the coordinates to the final cache. The remaining 1 of the first 7 geocaches will have an even easier question to answer that will give you the combination to the
lock that is on the final container.
The whole idea is to have fun -- the puzzles are all very easy, and can be solved by kids of all ages in just a few seconds -- there is nothing sneaky or tricky about them, as we would not want any cachers to make the trip, find the containers and then not be able to get the final cache.
Good luck and as always -- have fun !!!
