Cheyenne mineral spring

Cheyenne mineral spring is a natural sweet spring. Limestone aquifers believed to be a mile deep supply this spring with water. The water is also believed to be 20,000 years old. Minerals become dissolved in the water as it moves through the underground rocks. This may give the water flavor and even carbon dioxide bubbles, depending upon the nature of the geology through which it passes. This is why spring water is often bottled and sold as mineral water, although the term is often the subject of deceptive advertising. Springs that contain significant amounts of minerals are sometimes called 'mineral springs'.

This spring also has an unusual concentration of fluoride. Fluoride is a naturally occurring compound derived from fluorine, the 13th most abundant element on Earth. It is found in many rocks and minerals in the soil and enters drinking water as water passes through these soils. Fluoride is present naturally in almost all foods and beverages including water, but levels can vary widely. Fluoride has been shown to prevent tooth decay. That is why most public water treatment plants add fluoride to our drinking water. Optimal fluoride levels recommended by the U.S. Public Health Service and CDC for drinking water range from 0.7 parts per million (ppm) for warmer climates to 1.2 ppm for cooler climates to account for the tendency for people to drink more water in warmer climates.

To log this cache you must:
1)Find the information sign
2)Post a picture of yourself in front of the spring
3)Find out the exact amount of fluoride (ppm) that this spring water picked up on its journey through the rocks.
4)Then you will need to find out if the spring water has a higher than recomended fluoride level or a lower one.

Visiting the Colorado Springs area for the week from Cleveland, Ohio. I had a fun time exploring this quaint little downtown area while some of the teens in our group looked around on their own. It was quite entertaining to sit and watch the reactions of those who were tasting the spring water. Most did not seem to enjoy it but, surprisingly, I saw several people refilling their entire water bottles. Answers sent. Tftc

Message has been sent with answers. Visiting from Cleveland and I found this all very interesting. We have springs in Ohio, but none of them produce sparkling water.
