The Geode Cache is a tribute from the Geode Guys to my mother Lynn Atkinson.  I've dedicated this cache to her to thank her for instilling an adventurous spirit in all of us Atkinson kids as well as engraining a deep appreciation and love of Rocks in us forever more.  This Cache is a Fossil/Mineral themed cache with the idea that you would bring a fossil or mineral that special to you and exchange in the cache for another fossil/mineral/geode that way somebody can enjoy your special item sometime in the future!  Being that this cache was created and hidden by "The Geode Guys" we ask that you please only take as few geodes as possible (1 per person or less if you can) so that as many people as possible can enjoy the thrill of finding their own geode!  Lastly, you are welcome (and even encouraged) to crack this geode open yourself with your own devices.  However, if for some reason you are unable (or you'd just prefer a cleaner crack) to crack it yourself you are more than welcome to bring it to us at Art in the Park Steamboat on July 14-15th in Elk Park and we will crack it open for you on our custome machine (aka The Kracken).  With that said, enjoy the hunt and don't forget to bring a mineral or fossil with you!

PS if you have trouble finding the cache feel free to contact me www.geodeguys.com  Geocaching.com made me convert from UTM to Lat Long so hopefully it'll still be accurate!

Found this as part of a loop hike in the area up Mad Creek to the barn then across the bridge just beyond and back. Nice hike all along, with some great views in the second half of the hike. Saw a marmot and a deer near here.

Took nothing, though it's a great idea to have all the geodes there.

We were in Steamboat for a couple of days and targeted this cache. We had not yet hiked this trail. We picked a great sunny day with trees displaying their fall colors of yellows and oranges. The cache was well placed and brightly colored. GZ is a great spot from which to view the barn. Thanks for bringing us here.
