A micro-sized cache hidden in a sobering setting
Just steps away from a busy recreational hiking and biking trail are 3 aging wrecks that remind us of the dangers of mountain driving.
This geocache is hidden at the largest of the three, one marked with a warning to those who would drink and drive. The second wreck is just steps away in the downstream direction. The third is about 1/3-mile down the trail, but also in the creekbed.
I'm not a car guy, so I would be very interested if anyone can identify year, make and model of any of the three. We think the wreck at GZ can't be older than 1962 because that is about the time that Coors starting producing beer in 7-oz cans (there is a small rusty can still wedged in the wreck).
Keep your eyes open for poison ivy in this area in the late spring through fall. This creekbed is one of the few places in Colorado I've seen it in any abundance.
Please treat this auto graveyard with the respect it deserves.
