This will be a brief history of Riverview Cemetery and how it eventually became known as we know it today as Roselawn Cemetery. This little bit of info I obtained from the book "They all came to Pueblo" by Joanne Dodds. If you haven't read this book or her other one "Pueblo: A Pictorial History"; you really should. They have so much info on Pueblo and you can really learn a lot and the pictures are wonderful too!!!Riverview Cemetery was created by the Pueblo Cemetery Assoc. It began with 18 shareholders who contracted to purchase 350 acres from Colorado Coal & Iron Co. Mahlon D. Thatcher called the first meeting at the offices of Z.V. Trine & Co. Judge J.C. Elwell was elected chairman and B.F. Baldwin, Secretary. The plan was to issue 2500 shares that would sell for $100/share. By Nov. 2, 1891, they had sold over 600 shares; the largest (60 shares) was to Father Richard di Palma. His request was for blocks 14 & 15 be designated for catholic burials. The Masonioc Lodge # 31 requested block 13, the Sisters of Charity, block 59 and the Grand Army of the Republic, block 12. The Panic of 1893 hurt the development of the cemetery and the Assoc, was unable to meet its land payments to CC & I. Acreage was reduced and on Nov. 14, 1905 the name was changed to Roselawn Cemetery. The cemetery now has several different sections..the 15 acre historical section contains paupers, the 1098 who died during the flu epidemic in 1918 and those from the 1904 Eden Train Wreck. In 1912, Elks Lodge # 90, established block 18. You will notice this section by the big bronze bull elk. Not far from this cache you will see the Thatcher family resting place...they also hold a lot of Pueblo History.
As of 1/15/13, this is now a NANO. It is tucked into a pocket on the side of the big tree, about 5' up from the ground. If you face me, the name "Thatcher" will be directly behind you! log only BYOP...

07/15/2018 By SeekDaCache Once we learned about the Hidden Creature Challenge we knew we would have to travel in order to complete the challenge. We simply did not have one hundred caches within 40 miles to be able to log.. Since we had not been in the Pueblo area for years we decided to cache our way to and then in the area.
Day one started cool as we left very early in the morning, then grew to a very hot day. We performed maintenance for numerous cache owners. We replaced wet and full logs as well as broken and incomplete containers. We also replaced complete caches that were missing and accumulating numerous DNF's. We also had DNF's of our own on caches that were recently found but did not replace those. Searched for a few minutes and could not come up with it. Seeing all of the DNF's we placed a new container with log according to the clue to keep it going. SL
Thank you SugarPug for placing this cache for our enjoyment.
10/17/2017 By jdar56 DNF it hasnt been found for a while now
09/23/2017 By $rustyjones$ The big tree has small branch's at the cache location where it had to be at. The grounds keepers keep the limbs cut close so there is no way of putting a small bison tube cache replacement at spot. $RJ$ would have liked to do that. So, Enjoy the Peace in the Cemetery.
