An easy drive or long bike ride visiting historical sites in the area. They represent the sine qua non of our area.
It has been said that the road to enlightenment is long and tiring, bring a snack and a magazine. For this cache you may want to add a calculator and some sheets of paper. The initial co-ordinates take you to the starting point. You will need to change to UTM to continue. From there your correct answers will lead you to each new site. The first set of answers give you the last four digits of these UTM coordinates for the first stage.
E 048__ __ __ __
N 449__ __ __ __
Get these right and your road to enlightenment will be far easier.

Clue 1: Locate a large wooden sign erected by the D.A.R. to commemorate this site. Count the number of letters in the last name of Auntie Stone’s partner in the business, then multiply that number by 1030, then add 14. The sum is the last 4 digits of the Easting for your next location, enter them above. Add the letter value of each letter in the five letter name of this type of mill, multiply that amount by 94 and add 33 to that sum. The sum is the last 4 digits of the Northing for your next location, enter them above.
Go there.

Clue 2: Subtract 705 from the year this place was destroyed by fire and subtract the result from the Easting of the first clue.
Subtract 852 from the year this place opened and add the result to the Northing of the first clue.
Go there.

Clue 3: Add the letter values of the 5 letter last name for this explorer, add 1489 and subtract the result from the Easting of the second clue.
Subtract 1575 from the year of his birth and subtract the result from the Northing of the second clue.
Go there.

Clue 4: Subtract 148 from the 3 digit Grange number. Add the result to the Easting of clue 3.
Add the letter values of the town founded by this settler. Multiply the result by 10 and subtract 216 to that answer. Subtract the result from the Northing of clue 3.
Go there.

Clue 5: Add 222 to the year of the event and add the sum to the Easting of clue 4.
Subtract 1350 from the year the marker was placed and subtract the result from the Northing of clue 4.
Go there.

Clue 6: Substitute the letter value of Bazille’s birth month here, ___ ___ ___ then subtract 536 from that three digit number and subtract that result from the Easting of clue 5.

Add the letter values of the abbreviated month of his death, add 16 and add the result to the Northing of the clue 5.
Go there.

Clue 7: Add the letter values of the first name of the child whose father was in clue 4, multiply that sum by 10, add 977 and subtract the result from the Easting of clue 6.
Subtract 1800 from the year of her death. Add the result to the Northing of Clue 6.
Go there and locate the cache which is 30 feet to your left as face uphill.

GOOD LUCK!!! The initial cache contains card decks (like GO FISH), a top, some toy rings, a UCSC engraved spoon from the IRON CHEF (California cacher)provided by his buddy, Just A Short Walk, and a Trophy Bass CD (from the Underthings cache). Come, enjoy your visit.

 Hints

Using UTM will enable you to get very near the next site even if your math is a "little" off.

What a fun multi I loved an easyer one

I too have been to just about all of these stops for various caches and it's too bad this cache starts somewhere you wouldn't expect to lead you so far away. This was a lot of driving and going in circles for a 2/1 and the final itself was surrounded by high weeds and I would say the final alone deserves a higher rating. If you pick up this cache make sure you are ready for several hours of driving back and forth and make sure you do your calculations perfectly, even with taking pictures of each stop I'm case I made mistakes and double checking my math I still found the cache almost 100 feet away from my final spot. Maybe it's just migrating every time someone finds it! Anyways I'm glad to finally have this one complete, TFTC

Late log, found on our trip to CO. Thanks for the old multi and keeping it alive!

I have actually been to most of the stops before, just didn't know they were part of this multi. For the final I too incorporated CWWA (Caching While Wandering Around). The container was about 83 feet from where I calculated it to be.

We finally completed this cache-a-thon. We struggled at the final but thin incorporated CWWA (Caching While Wandering Around) and finally spotted. Enjoyed the history lesson. TFTC

Wow -- we cruised through this one pretty painlessly until we tried to find the final. We've heard various stories about children's names, etc., but could only arrive at a single set of coordinates at the penultimate waypoint. Going to the final, we found ourselves being pointed ~230' onto private property. We stumbled around the area a good bit having been assured it was somewhere in this part of the world, and CoBiker finally spotted it.

FWIW - if you compare our computed coordinates to the actual spot, we had to add .053 to the N coordinate and subtract 0.030 from the S coordinate. So if you did whatever it was we did, you might try that to see where it takes you!

I teamed up with Niblit Sr today to tackle a handful of tough caches on our lists. She had done the footwork on this one and I was just along for the homestretch find. She pointed out a few of the stages of this one along the way to some other caches today. Interesting history. We made the find and I managed to learn exactly what "cactus butt" (from the Lion King) feels like!! I was glad I had another pair of pants in the truck!! The final stage is in great condition. It was fun to look through the old log, back to 2002. TFTMC.

Finally...finally found. This took a whole lot of time and definitely hit a snag on stage six. But my buddies got me through this one and Shamrider helped in the final step. She did sit on a cactus in the process which was a bit funny, mostly because it wasn't me that sat on the cactus. But she handled it gracefully and made sure we scored the smiley. TFTC SL

This one was started yesterday and continued today joining forces with Las Vegas Bones and GolfGal42. We ran into obstacles while trying to execute the numerous stages of this caching marathon. The combined familiarity of the area by the teams helped us stumble our way through some of the stages relying on vague remembrances of required information. Sometimes our coords were off a bit, but we managed to work our way through the entire thing. Thanks to Cacheman48 for his help. He was the last cacher to log in a find.

While at one of the stages we ran into a local long time resident dressed in nothing but neckties. She was a participant in the Tour de Fat bicycle event today. (Wonderful costumes were on display at nearly every corner of the city.) This woman provided some additional local history including information about family members laid to rest in the Bingham Hill Cemetery. What a treat to chat with this person providing us living history.

Thanks, Geofred, for this cache.
