This geocache concerns locating smithereens.
As you will shortly see, the difficulty of this cache might be set too low.

The word “smithereens” is Gallic in origin so “Little People” might be involved. It is strange that the singular form of this noun is never seen but that is what you will be hunting for.

I have found that locating a single smithereen is almost impossible because they occur in groups. Also, they are formed by some violent act, usually by a human, but sometimes a pet might be involved. Also, the groups seem to disappear.

The large amount of kinetic energy involved in forming smithereens might cause them to become sentient and possess a hive mind with the ability to cloud the human mind. After having been informed by someone that smithereens have been formed, I then ask if they had saved any and they affix a somewhat vacant stare thus demonstrating the debilitating effect that smithereens could have.

I seem to have been affected in this same manner because this idea for a cache was thought of many months ago but I somehow forget to follow through. A few days ago I saw a group of smithereens and mentioned it to my geocaching partner and she thought that we should gather some of them and I agreed. Since those smithereens were located at an intersection, we thought it better to wait until much later in the evening. I then promptly forgot about it. Since she had not been near them, she could remember that we needed to recover a sample. The vehicle from which they came was no longer there and I am sure that the group will disappear also. One of these smithereens is located in the cache. I know that the smithereen came from some intersection on Dry Creek and west of Quebec but I can no longer remember the exact intersection. It is impossible to determine, at this time, how long these deleterious effects last.

So, to claim this cache, I would like for you to find a smithereen and put it into the cache. It is difficult to determine size because 100th of a tea cup is somewhat different from 100th of a 747. Weight seems to be inexact because a 325 mg aspirin actually weighs 428 mg. So volume will have to work. Thus the smithereen must be less than one cubic centimeter or about three stacked aspirins. You can see why I am choosing to use aspirin as a guide. Also, the smithereen must not be of artificial origin and should be of a manmade product. I will understand that TNLNSL means Took Nothing Left Nothing Smithereen Lacking. Please do not remove any existing smithereens.

Also, when logging the cache, describe the smithereens and where it came from. Example: My smithereen is a piece of tinted glass from an automobile.

One smithereen does not appear to have as much effect on the human mind as a group does, so as the container has more of them in it, I am sure that the cache will be visited less often.

In marking this container, I could not get accuracy closer than 225 feet but with the container removed this dropped to 20. I think that I remember putting the container back.

This container is on private property with permission. You may park in the driveway. It is located at the west edge of a large bush, at bottom of corner post.

Wow, I had no idea what a smithereen truly was until this cache. I left 3 beads that were the perfect size for a smithereen. I hope the homeowner wasn't watching me look for this one, as I was going all up and down the wrong side of the fence (west not east). After I changed directions I was able to spot it very quickly. All's well here.
Cheers!

I found a green smithereen nearby, but the edges were still a bit sharp, so TNLNSL. Thanks for placing and to the owners for hosting.

Visiting from California with our friends Ladditude, who introduced us to Geocaching in 2004. Enjoyed the beautiful Colorado sky and picked up 35 caches on the run. Thanks to the CO's for placing these great caches. SL
