The cache is NOT at the above coordinates.
BE SURE TO READ THE LAST LINE OF THE DESCRIPTION, WHICH IS THE SAME AS THE HINT -- GPS BOUNCE AT GZ IS PRETTY BAD, AND NUMEROUS CACHERS HAVE HAD SIGNIFICANT TROUBLE ONCE THERE.
Snow and ice will notch the terrain rating up to 3.5 or perhaps 4 if the snow and ice is significant.
BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE LETTER CODE ON THE LID OF THE CONTAINER, AND IN THE FRONT OF THE LOGBOOK (SAME CODE) WHICH IS USED IN THE “CLASSIC MOVIES" FINAL CACHE which is linked below.
Welcome to the first Classic Movies cache by the 3 Williams Kidz geo-team. The idea is that you will have to watch the movie to get the answers to the questions below; there are one, maybe two exceptions, for trivia’s sake. Since the entire script is available – and easily “searchable” -- online, I have tried to come up with questions that you cannot answer by checking the Internet, so some of these questions are pretty obscure.
Here are all the geocaches in the Classic Movies series:
1.
Casablanca
2.
The Great Escape
3.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
4.
Cool Hand Luke
5.
Patton
6.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
7.
The Godfather
8.
High Noon
9.
The Wizard of Oz
10.
Gone With the Wind
And the FINAL cache:
Classic Movies FINAL cache
If you are willing to watch one of Hollywood’s finest classic movies, get the TV and video player ready, maybe pop some popcorn, and have a pen and paper ready to answer the below questions, which are NOT IN THE ORDER they are presented in the film (just one part of the difficulty rating). I used the Warner Brothers Two Disc Special Edition DVD to develop the questions, but you will be able to get the answers by watching any version -- even VHS, Beta or LaserDisc !
The cache is located at North AB CD.EFG West HIJ KL.MNO
Latitude:
A: To announce that the German couriers have been murdered in the desert, a uniformed military or policeman makes a radio announcement. After he says “Important”, the scene cuts to Casablanca, where another military or policeman blows his whistle – the number of times he blows his whistle is A. Then – the police begin to “Round up the usual suspects” !
B: In the opening credits, the “Approved Certificate” number is shown just under a symbol on the lower right; add the middle two digits of the four digit certificate number to get B. This certificate is on the same page as the disclaimer that “The Story, all Names, Characters and Incidents … are fictitious…”
C: Two officers arrest a man who at first says he doesn't have his papers on him, but then he pulls them out of his breast pocket; both officers have a 3 digit number on their collars – the middle number for each officer is the same, and is C.
D: The number of times -- TOTAL – that Senor Ferrari (Sydney Greenstreet) swats at files in the movie is D.
E: Just before our first glimpse of Rick (Humphrey Bogart, who is playing chess by himself), he signs an authorization for a bill, and then hands the bill to a waiter; he then taps a white bishop with his finger. The number of times he taps this chess piece is E.
F: Flashback sequence; Rick and Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) are sitting at an outdoor table in front of the Aperitifs Liquers de Marque café in Paris when the newspapers come out with the story of the invasion; if you look between them, you can see the phone number of the café on the shop’s front window; add the middle two digits of the 4 digit phone number to get F.
G: Jan Brandel (Helmut Dantine) and his wife Annina Brandel (Joy Page) are trying to win at roulette, so they will have the money to pay Captain Renault for their Exit Visas; of course, Jan is losing. Annina speaks to Rick, who decides to help them out – Rick goes into the casino, and asks Jan: “Have you tried 22 tonight?” The number of chips that Jan puts on number 22 (the first time he bets on 22) is G. On this one, look VERY closely !
Longitude:
H and I: Just as the narrator says “… the others wait in Casablanca … and wait … and wait … and wait …” there is a sign on the left of the screen for a perfume shop. The name of the shop has 3 words, and the first word is “La”. The total number of letters that make up the remaining two words are H and I.
J: Sam (Dooley Wilson) plays the song “Knock on Wood”, and each time you knock on wood, you do so 3 times; the number of times that you knock 3 times is J.
K: The number of times the famous quote "Play it again, Sam" is said in the entire movie is K.
L: After learning that the German couriers have been murdered in the desert, the military/police begin their initial roundup of the usual suspects; after being notified to do so (see letter A, above) there are scenes of an open-topped car speeding through the narrow streets. The total number of people (who are all men) in the car is L.
M: Ilsa is shopping for some lingerie at an outdoor bazaar, where “You will not find a treasure like this in all Morocco, mademoiselle!” The name of the lingerie stand has 5 words; the number of letters in the second word of the shop’s name is M. While there, you would save some money if you were a friend of Rick’s; being a SPECIAL friend of Rick’s would bring the price down even farther !
N: Senor Ugarte (Peter Lorre) is going to be arrested at Rick's Café Américain; he tries to escape – the TOTAL number of shots fired is N.
O: It is night time, and Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid) and Carl (S. K. Sakall, the head waiter) have returned to Rick’s after the police broke up their meeting. Rick refuses to sell the Letters of Transit, and then military/policemen break in, and take away Victor. The number or military/policemen MINUS ONE is O.
Hope you enjoyed the movie, and this puzzle ! If you have your solution, check it for accuracy at
Geochecker.com.
At GZ, you may need to wait a minute or so for your GPS to settle out; mine bounced up to 53 feet for a very short while.

A few of the famous quotes from Casablanca:
Here's looking at you, kid.
I stick my neck out for nobody !
Round up the Usual Suspects !
Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Other not-so-famous quotes:
Yvonne (Madeleine LeBeau): "Where were you last night?"
Rick: "That's so long ago, I don't remember."
"Will I see you tonight?"
"I never make plans that far ahead."
Renault (Claude Rains): "What in Heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?"
Rick: "My health, I came to Casablanca for the waters."
Renault: "The waters? What waters? We're in the desert!"
Rick: "I was misinformed ... "
Trivia, and a giveaway for letter K, above: "Play it again, Sam" is never said in the film. Referring to the song "As Time Goes By" (written by Herman Hupfeld) which is now played at the intro of all Warner Brothers movies, where the studio buildings are shown, with a wavy image effect, there are two instances in the film that come close. Starting at 0:32:12, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) says: “Play it once, Sam; for old times' sake.”
Sam: “I don't know what you mean, Miss Ilsa.”
Ilsa: “Play it, Sam … play, As Time Goes By.”
Then, starting at 0:36:30, Sam tries to comfort Rick, who has been drinking. Rick says "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world ... she walks into mine …" Rick then continues: “What's that you're playing?”
Sam: “Oh, just a little something on my own.”
Rick: “Well stop it, you know what I want to hear.”
Sam: “No I don't.”
Rick: “You played it for her, you can play it for me.”
Sam: “Well I don't think I can remember… " (gets cut off)
Rick: “If she can stand it, I can; PLAY IT !”
Rick says congratulations to hartsdale for being FTF ! hartsdale gets a table close to Sam, and as far away from Major Strasser as possible -- table 30 !
IMPORTANT: GPS bounce at GZ is pretty bad (up to 100 feet). The cache is on the east side of the creek, in a small rock cavity about halfway up the south side of the 50 foot tall rock formation. There is a spruce tree with a somewhat curved trunk (and first 10 feet of tree) that is within about 10-15 feet of the cache. If you are looking uphill and eastward, with the creek behind you, the entire scree field should be to your right, and the 50 foot tall rock on your left, and towering above you. NO ROCK CLIMBING REQUIRED. Photos attached, as well.
