This is a 3 stage cache that includes approximately the first 3 miles of the Dadd Gulch Trail from the Poudre Canyon side. I like this trail, its dog friendly, but small children may get tired if you do all 3 legs.
There is water here, but in the heat of summer you may need to pack some in...

Initially listed Coordinates are for Trailhead location...

Cache 1 (Virtual) "Powerful Stuff!"
40° 41.374’N 105° 32.911’W 7,449 feet
Proceed up the Dadd Gulch trail (SW) from parking area after making sure you close the gate upon entry! Follow the trail for approximately 1.2 miles until you find a place where Thomas Edison's legacy makes a left turn. Tell me the silver number you find there.

Cache 2: (Traditional) "Perched Boulder Cache"
40° 41.059’N 105° 32.861’W 7,658 feet
From Cache 1 proceed in a southerly direction toward Cache 2 admiring the small stream and scenery along the way. As you approach the second set of coordinates, you will enter an area that shows significant evidence of recent fire activity (downed trees) and to your right will be a unique rock formation with what looks to be a perched boulder atop a spire. The cache is at the base of this perched boulder. You can attack the small climb head on or approach from either side. The climb is easy, my dog even made it to the cache site with me. Cache is a small Tupperware container (3 inch by 3 inch) containing a log sheet, golf tee, a ball mark repair tool, a luggage lock w/ keys, 2 lapel pins and a padlock key.

Cache 3: (Scenery) “What A View!”
40° 41.041’N 105° 33.250’W 8,145 feet
This is a high point directly west of Cache 2 that offers a great view of the surrounding country as well as a view of Comanche Peak and Lookout Mountain to the south and Cammeron Pass to the southwest. If you’re up for a climb, you can leave the beaten path and bushwhack .3 miles westward to the coordinates. If you prefer a more leisurely approach, continue along the trail toward a ridgeline (approximately 40° 40.907’N 105° 33.244’W) and approximately .2 miles to the north you will see a small peak with another interesting rock formation. After a moderate climb away from the trail, you will reach the cache site, relax enjoy the view and reflect on the beautiful country we get to live in!

As noted in find log, stage 2 container was broken beyond repair. Carried out remains to avoid leaving trash. Did not have suitable replacement available.

Thanks for the adventure! We headed up Dadd Gulch today with our new puppy to give her a taste of hiking. She did great, and we enjoyed the day. Found stage 1 no problem. Coordinates for stage 2 were off a bit, but the description got us there. Attached new ones, showed 18 ft. accuracy. Found the remains of stage 2, but it was in pretty bad shape. We carried out the pieces of the container, lottery ticket, and some unidentified paper. Didn't have anything to replace the container with, sorry. We were huffing and puffing a bit on the way to stage 3, but enjoyed our lunch and headed back to the car.

Forgot to put in the second set of coordinates, duh. Otherwise completed the cache. Looked at the rock formation at #2 and thought that was probably where it should have been but was running low on time to blindly search. Got buzzed by a big old plane while on the third spot.

took a spill on the scrabble on 2 and almost needed a search and rescue.... might up the terrain to a 4 due to sketchiness of the rock...

Carolyn (Denali Queen caching name) and I drove by the trailhead for Dadd Gulch so many times en route or returning from long days of hiking or climbing the ranked mountains farther up the canyon. We kept promising one another that one day we'd stop here and hike up the gulch and get to the three stages of this cache. Of course that didn't and can never happen, in view of her death on the Matterhorn during our climbs in the European Alps this past August. So today my puppy Teewinot and I took a hike in Carolyn's memory up Lower Dadd Gulch; we visited the three cache stages/locations. The answer to Stage 1 will be e-mailed to barleyman2004. The container at Stage 2 has only a small paper card for signatures, and the space will be filled in with only a few more finds. Someone who goes for this cache should bring some additional paper to leave for logging signatures.

Of course we needed to go beyond that stage to the marvelous views at Stage 3. My puppy Teewinot and I sat there for 30 or more minutes, admiring the scenery that included so much of the distant terrain that Carolyn and I had ascended over the years as we closed on our quest to be the first to climb the 255 ranked peaks of Larimer County. She had come so very close to this objective by the time of her tragic death. This was a marvelous hike for my puppy Teewinot and me today, and we are thankful for this chance to finally hike up this nice trail!

For those of you who like "adventure caches", go out and find the final stage of my "Choose Your Own Adventure Cache" (GCV1E1) in Rolland Moore Park in Fort Collins. It was one of Carolyn's favorite caches. Go after it, and you'll understand why.

Happy Halloween. You couldn't have asked for better weather for this hike. Mid 60s. I have been wanting to this cache for some time now and because of the unseasonably warm day I decided to make this our number 900th cache. Found number 2 on the ground with the magnet still in it. I added a scrap of paper with my name and put the container on top of the balanced rock with a smaller rock on top of it. Had lunch at three before the trip back. TFTC

Exciting adventure for the day. Found first stage, no problem. Second stage took awhile. Actually we were about to give up when the youngest of the team said "what about up there"?. So we investigated, assuming we were just amusing him, when there it was. Younger eyes seem to always see better. Cache container was open with nothing inside. Left multi-cache geo magenet and replaced top, no paper to add, nothing to sign. Third stage was a great finish to a wonderful day up the Poudre. TFTC!
