On a business trip to Montrose and desperately wanted to check off this out of the way county as that would likely be the closest I ever get. I targeted this cache as the closest in the county. Looked like it had a good find history too.

I set out from Montrose in the rain. Naturally as I began to climb it turn to snow, well slush really. As I neared Cerro Summit there was about six inches of slush on the road. A couple pick-up trucks hauling trailers were having trouble getting up. I would have turned around before that if I had gotten stuck with the rental car they originally tried to give me. Due to damage on that car I ended up with a Subaru Outback which is what my own cachemobile is. Slow and steady got me to the cache.

It was snowing lightly when I arrived. The sun had set but it was still light enough to see. I read the hint right away in order to make a quick find of it. I went to the most obvious tree of that description. No luck. My GPSr showed I was about 60 feet off. I moved to a closer tree of the type. Still no luck. In the end I search every tree of that type in about a 100 foot radius. By that point my feet in my sneakers designed for good air flow were soaked and freezing. It was full dark and I was searching with a headlamp. Time to give up and go find the back up cache down the road.

Today's quest was to finish a couple of challenges - caches in all Colorado counties and 500 cemetery finds. Both were accomplished as we ended our very enjoyable visit to the Montrose/Gunnison area and headed back to Colorado Springs. This was today's primary objective as it completed the All Colorado Counties quest! A quick PNG. Nice hide. SL. TFTC

MerryMary and I are on a two-week vacation to Colorado to enjoy the fall colors -- taking photos, camping, hoteling, hiking, and 4-wheeling. Today we drove from Delta, Colorado, to Lake City. We stopped here to find this cache. Took a few seconds to spot -- but wondered why -- it's right there, in your face! SLTNLN -- thanks for the fun, jeeperz1&2...

I stopped to get this one on my way out of Lake City and I stopped at the wrong pull off which initially made me mad because I had to walk over to the cache. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it gave me a great prospective of my truck an camper and made for a good photo opportunity.

I'm currently on a 12 day road trip from Indiana to Colorado and my goal is to get caches in as many counties along the way as I can. I lived in Gunnison for 4 years during college and haven't been back to the area for 10 years. I had kind of forgotten how great western Colorado is. I need to come back here more often.

Today I traveled from Gunnison, down to Lake City, and eventually through Montrose to Telluride where I met up with an old Mountain Rescue team buddy.
I managed to grab 14 caches today. Thanks for the hide.
