This cache is a memorial to a C-47 crew that crashed at this location on September 10, 1947. The Pilot: Maj Jack Grifith, Co-Pilot: Lt. Oran Richardson and Navigator: SSG. Edmund Bueler. The plane was flying a practice mission that took off out of Denver. The crash was spotted on the morning of September 11, 1948 by a school bus driver. The army came out the same day to collect the remains, and the large pieces of the plane, but left many small parts (bolts, washers, etc). There weren't any survivors, nor does anyone know what caused the accident.

Inside this cache is a bolt that was from the C-47 that was found in the area.

Lots of snow along the trail, but the area around the cache was pretty much melted out. Thanks for bringing us to this historic site.

Had to laugh at RPieperCo's log! Too funny. Glad I didn't read it before ernie66 and I went to get this cache or I would have been on high alert. We saw the cave on the way back, but no vulture. Guess it had enough of us cachers. Great spot, although we chose a difficult way to get to it. Interesting story on the C-47 crash. Thanks for the hike and the history.

Out hiking with estes01 and decided on the Spruce Mountain loop. We chose a bad way to get down to the cache but took a much easier and more direct path back to the top. Nice easy find once we got to GZ. TFTC!
