Images to decipher

The cache is not at the posted coordinates but is about 440 feet away. To figure out where, you will have to solve this puzzle. The key to solving it is so obscure that I would be surprised if you could find anything about it on the internet. But it's not that hard. Is it?
You might have discovered some railroad tie date nails in some of my other caches (GC14NYD or GC18J7Q). Date nails were at one time inserted into railroad ties to date when they were placed in service in the track. Once a tie was removed from the track due to it being worn out, the date nail could be used to determine how long the tie lasted. Railroads kept records of what sort of wood and preservation was used in a given section of track. This practice enabled railroads to learn how long a type of tie would last so that they could determine the best type of wood and preservation to use. Not all railroads used nails to date the ties, however. Another way was to drill three small circles into the top of the tie. They were drilled between the rails slightly closer to one rail than the other. To properly read them, you would have to stand facing the center of the track on the half of the tie containing the holes. You get to decipher these symbols to determine the actual location of this cache. They are already oriented properly for reading and can be veiwed in the attached file.

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.

 Hints

Each of the 8 symbols represents a two digit number. Since the symbols represent the actual coordinates, it should be no surprise what two digit number the first symbol represents. Maybe trying the puzzle at different times of the day will help you figure it out.

I solved this puzzle back on April 28. It took me quite a while to fit a few pieces into place. Today, I finally made it out here to search for the cache. The area is overgrown and I found myself repeatedly searching the same thing to the point of insanity. I thought, "it has to be right here." Once I let go of my idea of where it should be and looked for an area that matches the hint, I made the find. TFTC!

We have worked on this puzzle for YEARS but never figured it out. Finally got a hint and then solved the puzzle. Area was quite overgrown and we started to doubt we would find it (hadn't been found since February). Actually started to send a note to previous finder when George called out those wonderful words "found it". Cache is in great condition. Thanks for the challenging puzzle and hide.

Was looking for a few new puzzles to solve, we came across this one and read a few of the logs and noticed that the previous finder left a PathTag. We jumped into gear and solved this very unique puzzle. Definitely get a favorite point. We headed out into the darkness of night to snag this cache and we were lucky enough to get the PathTag. We also left our custom PathPin for the next finder.
Keeping our streak streak. Thanks for placing this cache and keeping our recreation going. SL/with PoshCacher. Tftc

This one took me a while to solve. I Googled the heck out of it and nothing was clicking. I don't remember what finally made the light go on (I had solved it a while back) but I was very glad when it did! And then it stayed on my "to find" list for a while. I was in the area today though taking a nice walk with my geopup, Jack. Once we got to GZ though I got stuck. The obvious beacon was empty. Granted it was a few feet off of GZ but within reason. Lots of overgrowth and I was worried about a DNF. Finally I spotted something that looked promising and sure enough, there it was!

I was working on the Geocache Challenge of the Month as issued by @geocachingvlogger and LookoutLisa from www.cache-advance.com and this was my small find. For this month, the challenge was to find three different sizes in the same day. This was my small.

Thanks for the hide cajrrman!

There were times today where it seemed like the only value I added was bringing a pen. This cache was one of those, as heh324 was the brains behind the puzzle and PayMeCache was the one who apparently where to look. At least they couldn't sign the log without me. Thanks for the fun hide.

WOOT WOOT Find #300 for me AND the first mystery cache I ever solved. Out with fearthefish and PayMeCache today sleuthing some mysteries and my geo-heros graciously stopped here to help me find a cache I had solved many months ago. Making it a favorite for being my first puzzle cache and my 300th find.
