CONGRATULATIONS TO KAIWARRIOR, AND ULTRAHIDE FOR CO-FTF and thanks to CNC for the two photos! It's nice to actually see a "view" from Unfair View!
A hike to the summit of Fairview Peak should result in a great view! Not on this day. We labored through thick fog to the top and saw virtually nothing! Terribly UNFAIR, I voiced. Where were the captivating views of the peaks of Heil Valley Ranch and Hall Ranch Open Spaces, of Coffintop, of Green Mountain and South Boulder Peak, of Meeker and Longs, of Wild Basin, of the high mountains in Indian Peaks Wilderness? Where were the “fair” views? Nada, zip, soupy fog!

So when you go after this cache, make your hike on a sunny, clear day, and write in your “found” log your impressions of the views you absorbed, so I’ll have a fuller understanding of what I missed on the day that April Fool's was played on me by the fog. Once you arrive in the cache vicinity, you should have no difficulty finding the container. It’s placed a distance from the summit cairn. A summit register exists at the cairn; for years and years this register has been routinely signed by elementary school kids on class field days. If the kids and teachers/chaperons can make it up to the top of Fairview Peak, so can you. Take the hike, enjoy the fair views, find the cache, and have a fun outing.

If you have time, continue north past Fairview Peak to find GC2683H, "Mountain Firescape". Add this as a bonus cache. It's easy from the top of Fairview!

Take extra clothing, fluids, and food. Don’t let Mother Nature make a fool out of you, as she made of me on April 1st as I peered through the fog to see nothing.

I planned to start today at the 4x4 access in Left Hand Canyon, but the road was closed today for blasting. I guess they are still rebuilding the road after it was destroyed in the flood. I planned to visit all the caches down below and maybe, just maybe, make my way up to Fairview. Well, my plan got reversed with the road closed, and I decided to try to access Fairview from the West.

It looked like I could follow County Road 87 J to the end then hike across Forest Service land up to Fairview. My plan seemed to be working until I came across a gate in the road that said private property, no trespassing. Now, there was no question that the road cut through private property, but it seems like on my topo map and in aerial photos that it continues to run out the other end onto Forest Service land. I'm not sure what the actual legal status of this road is, but I wasn't about to knock on the homeowners door to find out. So I parked just before the gate and took the long way around, following forest service land down into the (very snowy) valley. It wasn't the most pleasant route, but it got me to where I was going and I didn't come across any irate landowners. Thanks for bringing me up here, I got to take in a lot of the unfair views today. Dropped off a geocoin that wants to travel to mountaintops and left a Guatemalan Quetzal and a blank card.

Barngineer and I got together for some back country caching today and this was on my list to find today. After making the find on Black In Space we headed uphill for this one. Since he had already found it, he sat back and was entertained by my attempt to find it. After several minutes of searching his entertainment was over. I signed the log and we headed for the other caches to the east and north. Thanks Denali41 for this cache with a Fair view!

I guess I'm glad that I didn't read Kaiwarrior's log before setting out on this quest. I approached in my Jeep on CR 87J, which is gated, so I backtracked a ways until I found a spot that looked like it might be public access. It kinda wasn't, but I just tried to be respectful and I tried to keep out of sight from houses, and I eventually made it to the cache site. It became obvious that the best way to approach would be on the trail from the south. My way was pretty fun, but more rough than it needed to be.

It was chilly and breezy, but very clear and beautiful. I could see the big buildings of Denver, and the big mountains of the back range. I couldn't quite see my house, but I could see Blue Mountain which is just up the road from me. The cache container seemed so empty, so I added a Hawaii quarter to it. I sat near the summit and ate my lunch while enjoying the view.

Thanks for a great adventure! This cache is a definite favorite.

Checked on the cache while I was in the area today. Everything's fine.
