Eleventh in a series of Tom.dog Tribute caches to recognize certain cachers who I believe give back to the game in a very noticeable way and who are just plain out, all-around good guys.

My thanks to hiking_fool for his diversity of creative hides and the cool locations that they take you. My personal favorites so far have been the LSA series and the "surveyor" caches. This cache was inspired by "Surveyor's Lament" (GC28YQR).

At the listed coordinates, you can find a U.S. Department of the Interior cadastral survey mark. It is a metal pipe cap secured to the top of a pipe, driven into the ground near the corner of a fence. Use the writing on the mark to answer the questions below and find the final coordinates to the cache. I reccommend that you park at the coordinates I have supplied below and hike to the final from here.

North coordinates:

N 39 04.A

To find A, take the year the mark was established, and subtract 1,254.

West coordinates:

W 104 54.B

To find B, look for one of the sets of words below to be found on the mark. The one that really is stamped into the mark will have the 3-digit number you need for B.

"$250 FINE FOR DISTURBING" B = 666
"BUR. OF LAND MANAGEMENT" B = 777
"PIKE NATIONAL FOREST SURVEY PROJECT" B = 888
"T12S R82W" B = 999

Good luck and have fun!

I have enjoyed several hiking_fool caches and appreciate that so many were adopted. So it was nice to also complete this tribute cache. Thanks, Tom.dog, for placing this multi cache.

So, I found stage one with ease. Had the coords for stage two. But was unfamiliar with the area so I didn't go to it. At first. While caching in the area, I realized I got pretty close to it so I made my way up there. Found it with ease but there was standing water inside. I laid everything out to dry for a bit. I added a new log in its own baggie and returned the current, wet log to it's baggie and to the new log. Grabbed the TB as it had rusted a bit in the cache. I'll move it along. I think I got everything cleared out. I placed the cache in the larger ziploc and returned it to the same location with more coverage/protection for the elements. Hopefully it holds out. TFTC!

PS - this whole area was severely impacted by snow drifts! While I did enjoy the solitude, I didn't enjoy walking in knee-deep! But that's what I get. Oh well. I did kind of love it!

The first time I was in the area, I was chased down the hill by a big storm. Today was a nice, warm August afternoon and took my sweet time to find the final. Nice views from this peaceful spot.

I had enough time after hiking in the area today to grab a few more caches. The first stop was quick and then I was on my way to the final. Water has gotten into the container and the log was a little wet. I dried it as well as I could and put it back as found. TFTC

Towards the end of a very very long day of geocaching, I hit the "screw it" button and turned into Monument to go finish off this cache, which I started two days ago. Though this cache is dedicated to the legendary hiking_fool, I took the Tom.Dog approach and beelined through the scrub oak until I hit a trail. It worked, and soon I had the cache in hand. Final had a bunch of water in it so I tried to let it dry as best I could.

Hiking_fool was one of the first geocachers I ever met. I had about 200 finds and wasn't even in high school at the time. He gave me all kinds of advice about geocaching and I was always looking for a way to get in touch with him. He was a great geocacher who did a lot for this game, but an even better person. I know he is missed by many. Thanks for dedicating this cache to him! Rest easy, hiking_fool!

Picked this nice cache up while geo-running around the Mt. Herman area. Although not the case when this cache was placed, it is truly now more than a tribute; but now a memorial. It was nice to reminisce and reflect on Hiking Fool's memory and how much we miss him, RIP Hiking Fool. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

We hadn't planned on grabbing this cache today (in the area picking up some mystery caches), but when we stumbled upon it, who could resist?! We so much enjoyed the beautiful hike on this gorgeous Colorado day. SL
