There are dozens of peaks in Colorado that have been officially designated by the USGS as “Bald Mountain”, or “Bald Peak”, or “Baldy”. Several of them are found within Boulder County. This one has an elevation of 8,620 feet. It’s summit is in Roosevelt National Forest, and it’s accessible via public lands using a steep hike from parking on Boulder County Road 94. The summit area has several points along it that appear to be equivalent in elevation–so it’s difficult to decide when you are truly at the highest point of this particular Bald Mountain.

But that’s perhaps unimportant to you if you’ve come to this pleasant location primarily to find the treasure of its mountain geocache. The coordinates should take you to the hiding location, where you’ll find a small container with the log. It’s hidden under a broad-based juniper tree. Bring a pencil or pen for your log-signing ceremony. I don’t recall if I placed one in the cache.

After you’ve signed the cache log and rehidden the container, find a soft rock to sit on. Relax. Admire the splendid views from this nice position. Enjoy your solitude. You deserve this special time on Bald Mountain after the effort you needed to reach the top!

Be careful on your descent of this steep terrain as you work your way down to your vehicle!

I parked at the obvious spot at a bend in the road. There is the beginning of a trail there and a 'No Shooting' sign. The trail quickly disappears however. It was a pretty rough scramble up, but a little easier when I found some real rock to grab on to. The mountain seems more like it's balding at best, there are actually quite a few trees up here. Found the cache easily, but logging it was a little more difficult. The pen didn't work very well, and on top of that, I sat on a cactus while trying to scratch my name. Ouch! Nice view of Fairview Peak, which I scrambled up last winter.

I also walked up the hill to the northwest just it case it was a ranked peak (it's not).

I originally had planned to go after a single lonely cache today but when I got up this morning my knee was still a little sore from the 14 mile CMC hike in RMNP on Saturday. So I went with Plan B which was to get a couple D/T combos that will move me closer to my 5X Fizzy and some other caches that will help with challenges I'm working toward.

I headed up to the Peak to Peak highway and then down Overland to the parking spot below this cache. I had three targets on my hike from this parking location. After finding and logging Explore the Cannon and Stuck Bronco, I headed east along the ridgeline. I was slightly downhill until I got within about 1/2 mile from the cache and then things changed! That last 1/2 mile had a couple steep sections but I eventually made it to GZ.

I found the container safe in its hiding spot, just as described. Signed the log and then enjoyed the fabulous views to the east, south, and especially west. Thanks Steve for luring me to this location!!!

I really like a cache with a view, and the ones that have had only a handful of visitors. This one fits both criteria. I picked a route with very little snow coming up and then a route with lots of snow on the way down. Neither was easy, but both added to the fun. Thanks once again for making me go someplace I wouldn't have otherwise known about!

Hiked up the east slope from county road 87. Presumably private land for the first half mile anyway. Forest service boundary about halfway up. Reached the top in about 40 mins. Unfortunately did not find the cache, since my cell phone lost data service on the summit. Looked around for a solid hour, no luck. Awesome views and not another soul in sight. Dont think I will return anytime soon for the cache, but good hike anyway.

Found it. Approached this one from the west along the peaks from Ceran St Vrain. Made for a long and tough hike but certainly worth it. TFTC.
