The location for this cache was chosen by my granddaughter, Ember (Glowgirl). It is her first time to place a cache.
It is one of four caches in this general area, three placed by me. They can all be accessed from the trailhead on the main road. This trail gets very muddy after rain or snow. Just ask Glowgirl - she loved sliding around in the muck. (Two or three can also be easily accessed from a wide spot on the Dinosaur Quarry road, where power lines cross the road. This road is closed when wet.)
After a short ascent, follow the trail, which is pretty flat, until you can make your way to the base of a small butte. The climb up the butte becomes a scramble to get to the cache near the top. Approach generally from the NW side - there is only one place up high to get through the cliffs that protect the cap rock. Glowgirl, 7, was able to make the scramble with a few hands on rocks here and a hand up there.
Be VERY careful near the top. Cliffs! Children should be very closely supervised. If you go all the way to the caprock, be even more careful. It's not necessary to go all the way to find the cache, but even there, cliffs are nearby. The cache is NOT next to the edge.
The great thing about going to this cache (besides finding it) is taking in the great view. Glowgirl loves vistas.
The cache is starting with two trackables and treasure chosen by Glowgirl.
Enjoy the views and have fun!
Congratulations Room1009 for FTF! This one is more challenging than others I've put out recently, and you met those challenges.
