Dogs  Difficult climbing  Available during winter  Abandoned mines  Bicycles  Motorcycles  Quads  Off-road vehicles  Snowmobiles  Medium hike (1km-10km)

Old structure made of stone we stumbled across while trying to climb Mt. Lincoln in the winter.
Hid this cache on my first winter camping trip. Some buddies and I thought it would be cool to hike this mountain in the winter. . . .it was. This cache is out off the trail a bit so please tread lightly using the rocks, and snow when available to save the plant life. During late fall, winter, and early summer snow shoes will be required to access this area.

I was trying to get to the summet and with all the snow covering the trail we managed to zig when we should have zagged. We found the remains of what was probably a shelter when the mines on this mountian were still active. Continueing on we went straight up the side of the peak just to the north west of cache location. It was covered with a hard snow pack which was pretty slick. The two guys I was with had no trouble getting up however with my old boots and little traction I slipped about 3/4 of the way up and shot back down the slope on my back. Fun and a bit scary all in one. You could say its like going down that first drop on a roller coaster just on ice with no coaster.

FOR PARKING IN WINTER:
there is a small cul-te-sac just down the road from the Mt. Lincoln trail head that you can park in. If you have questions you may want to ask one of the local residents (we did and they were very greatful) You will see signs everywhere saying not to park on the side of the road you will get towed. The snow plow comes through quite a bit shaving off the snow by the sides of the road to help with drainage so no one can park there. In the summer you should be able to make it up to the small parking area off of the main road with a 4 wheel drive or even a tough car with good tires.

Just had to drive and then hike over to this very lonely cache this afternoon.

It has not been found in just a little over five years.

It is in fine shape too.

Thanks for a fun one!

Great cache on a great day at Mt. Lincoln. Took NJ tracker coin, left 2GB memory card with photo of the pair who found cache today. Great find!

Wow! How does a great cache like this escape notice for so long? Great walk, intriquing mining ruins to explore, and a USLM to sight - loved it! Dropped off a New Jersey geocoin with the motto "Take a Hike" (How appropriate!). Thanks for putting this cache in play!
