Scenic view  Long Hike (+10km)

When I came into the possession of one of The Revenant movie TBs I knew I needed a special place to drop it off.  At the coordinates you will find an ammo can and an outstanding view.

<

There are numerous ways to approach the cache.  Some are harder than others but none are easy.  The safest is probably using trail 638 until you are east of the cache or ENE of it. I was less than a half mile from the cache when I left the trail.  Be careful in the immediate area of the cache.  There is no need to do anything scary if you pick the right route. The cache should be an easy find using the hint.

The FTF will get to pick up physical evidence of Hugh's presence but I put photographic evidence inside the lid for future finders to discover. With the hint it should be an easy find. The difficulty is in figuring out a good route to the cache. Hugh Glass did it and so can you.

 Hints

Find the dead tree and go 8-10 feet away from Pikes Peak. It's under a round boulder that is about two feet across.

Billkat was here too! Oh my gosh. I can't believe I made it up there. I almost turned around 2 or three times and once I got there I didn't think I would make it back. But I had to get this cache come hell or high water and get it I did.
Not much snow left on the peak.

Found with Javachip during a long 20 mile trek around the area. We came at it from Chevre and once we hit the swamp we skirted to the right until we could cross the creek. It wasn't too bad coming at it this way. Great Views! TFTC!

Well, I just said 'nuts' to good advice and came straight down the gps's needle point from Barr Camp. It was pretty cool down around the open "meadow" area (shows real well on satellite view) just south of this hill. I lived three years in Alaska once, but that area had no floating muskeg terrain - there sure is some here! And the margin areas around it are FULL of big piles of elk poopies; as well as a few places with bovine footprints half again larger than my hand. What's a moose footprint look like ???

Well as always it amazes me you Colo folks finding these places... and with a backpack full of ammo cans to boot ?? !! I won't do it the insult of trying to describe the view.... Just come see it!!! I have a sneaking suspicion that a cache I 'always meant to get' was archived nearby recently??? If you were in the same boat then here's your chance Smile Smile

In all honesty, this is the most spectacular view of Pikes of Peak and every single jagged outcropping that we've undertaken. You've outdone yourself. We were tempted to try to get to this cache yesterday, but thought it might be best to leave the FTF to someone else. No one had claimed it by the time we arrived around 2:30 PM today. As you know, I hadn't done Chevre yet and a few others in the area, and I was completely exhausted by the time we got to the cache. The rating is correct as far as I'm concerned.

In the movie, Hugh Glass had much easier terrain to handle than we did :-) No bears or natives though.
This is just an amazing spot and I dropped off my lighthouse coin as a beacon. Thank you!

FTF today around 2:15pm with estes01. We were hoping MountainBear and JavaChip had been here, but the log was blank. We came directly from Chevre - really not a bad route as long as you're aware of the swamps (aka "ghost lakes"). Thanks for bringing us to places we have never been. A great adventure! Traded out the TB's. TFTC!
