La Ventana is a local name for a naturally occurring phenomenon in the foothills to the west of the San Luis Valley. Located off of FS road 660, this cache may be approached from either the north or south. You can park within about 360 feet of the cache, but it's a fairly vertical hike. Don't forget to thread the needle after the cache for a fantastic view.

 Hints

Follow the trail up then go left. Look for two rocks out of place (to some of us, that might mean a small cairn (hint, hint)).

Came to Colorado from Maryland with Fyregypsy for our wedding. This one ended up being special after finishing the ceremony we decided to take a few wedding pictures near the arch since we had visited earlier in the day and found the other cache on the other side. After the photographer pulled away and deciding against driving the 40 minutes to find the virtual we initially intended. We kept the same clothes on from the ceremony and headed up the hill starting to lose daylight we were beginning to think we were not gonna find the cache after searching a little bit longer and expanding our search we came up with the cache we signed the log snapped a few pictures and replaced as found. In town from Maryland with JL826 for our wedding. This one ended up being special for us. After checking out the arch earlier in the morning, and deciding against doing this one because of the climb and the time we had before getting ready, we ended up back here for pictures after our ceremony. Originally we had planned to go about 40 minutes south for a virtual to do as our first cache after all was said and done but in true geocaching fashion, plans don't always work the way you think. Without changing into suitable clothes and with limited time until dark we decided to just go for this one since it was under 500 feet away. Once we got to GZ we were having trouble spotting the location and luckily with just enough time to get back to the car before it got to dark, we made the find. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this one.

Nice hike! If you want to call it that, but well worth the trip. As I was scrambling over the rocks 'gart ventured up to the cache on the other side. Had to give this one a favorite point, said this many times before, it's caches like this that got us into geocaching. TFTC

Such a cool arch! I loved climbing above it on the ridge with Desert Romantic.

Wow! I had so much fun in this area! MissPiggyBacker had the idea for us to check this out, and I am glad we did. We have our own La Ventana Arch in New Mexico, but this one has a completely different character. We hiked up to the opening and then did some scrambling along the ridge above the arch for a bit. After getting back down safely, we promptly searched for the cache. The cliffs were messing with the signal a bit, but we soon found it. This may be my favorite cache along our little trip. TFTC!
