This cache is located on the highest point (9537ft) of Midland Hill east of Buena Vista. I forgot to mention this before but there are two logs up here. The cache has the Geocache log sticker on it. The other is the summit log. There is a well marked trail all the way to the top. The trail near the top can see some snow in the winter but its usually not bad. Be sure to bring water and take your time if your not used to the elevation.
The cache location is at the top of Midland hill also known as Sleeping Indian and if you go further back it was called White Box. From town the mountian is said with imagination to look like a "sleeping indian" The most common name is now Midland Hill because between 1887 and about 1917 the Colorado Midland Railroad had its tracks where the present day county road is. The name White Box comes because, many years ago there was a summit log box painted white, hence its name white box. Story goes someone out of mischief blew the box up with a stick of dynamite back in the 1930's or 40's. It has since been replaced by mayo jars and various other containers. Anymore sadly that name and story is almost forgotten.
To access this cache you can park at the Whipple Trail at the river park in Buena Vista which will add much more time and distance to your hike, or you can park in a pullout along County Road 304 where the trail intersects the road. (38 50.624N, 106 06.748W). Make sure to bring water with you it is a longer hike but the views are very much worth it!
If you travel further north on the county road you will see the site where the Midland Railroad station and bunkhouses sat along with the wagon road coming from town (now the Barbra Whipple trail)
Original cache contents are; compass, 1ft NRS strap, caribiner, seashell, crayons.
In the summer this spot does have muggles on most days of the week so please replace the cache as you found it. Happy Caching!

Congrats Hartsdale FTF!

Our 7th and final cache of the day. We had a great climb to the top of the hill. Tough hike that gains 1100' over the last 1.1 miles, but it was the perfect day to take in the views. Sunny, light breezes, and cool temperatures. We waited for a group of 4 muggles to descend before searching for the cache. Signed the summit log and then went looking for the cache, which we found where described by the cache listing. Thanks for showing us the great views.

I made it! Wow, what a climb! I could only find the actual cache & did not find the summit log. Fortunately there was a good hint as the cache is hidden pretty deep in those rocks. I wondered if I could make it the mile over to the Indian Head cache but kept remembering I would have another mile back too. I reset my GPS to see exactly how long the trail was that brought me up almost 1500'. Unfortunately the batteries died on my way down & I didn't notice but it was at 1.5 miles so I estimated the trail is about 2 miles all together. Even though my lungs didn't burn any more, My legs were jelly all the way back down.

Wow! What a view. Our first 360° view. It was a beautiful, sunny, clear but windy day. We signed the mountain top log as well as the cache log. The cache is in great shape, tucked away nicely just where the hint indicated. Although it did take us a while to find it. Great hide, great cache! Thanks for placing it here! Giving it a favorite point.
