Takes more than an hour

This is a cache in honor of our good friend Tahosa, who has moved to Arizona. No one has put out a good cache that requires some research for a while, so this is for all his fans.
Cache is NOT at the above coordinates. You will, however, need to visit them to find out the subject matter.

1. Visit the initial coordinates. You are looking for the marker with the dates 1835-1927.

2. Once you have figured out our subject, you will need to decide what their major contribution is. Find that, and answer the following, to plug in the numbers.

3. p161 Definition
40 ( what page?). ( second paragraph 3rd word, 14th word, 6th word)
105 ( DAR placement last two digits x 2). (5th paragraph, 2nd word, 3rd word, 7th word)

4. Go to the new coordinates and project a waypoint 225.36 degrees for 1795.2 feet.

UPDATE: at this time, due to the recent fires in the area, the spot of the final location is closed to all entry. To log the cache, send us your final coordinates, and you may log the cache, just until they open this area up again. Thanks for staying safe!

5. Proceed to the final cache site. Cache is a lightly hidden ammo box.

Area is still officially closed, so cache will not be replaced till it is open, but that should be some time this summer, as long as trail work remains on schedule. In the meantime, I will continue to allow finds with proper coordinates.

Didn't find it 01/09/2018 By icezebra11
I had solved this one quite awhile ago and was given permission by the Clan to go ahead and log it but I had chosen to wait until the closure was lifted. Well today I was in the vicinity and decided that the closure notice technically did not cover the area where the cache is at. So I did an easy bushwhack to GZ avoiding the officially closed areas. Got to GZ and the hiding location and found that it had burnt up in the 2012 fire. I looked around and could not find an ammo can. But I did find a mostly burnt deck of cards and a small altoids tin. Looks like the final needs to be replaced!

Was in the area so decided to stop by and see who A and W was. Thought I would have to make a trip to the main library, but thanks to the D.A.R. the necessary resource is online. Gathered the necessary info (nice segway to geocaching, by the way!), and couldn't help but read a bit about local history more than 100 years ago. Thanks to Tahosa and Sons' "The Original Cache" I have seen the monument mentioned in the resource. As an aside, Tahosa came to his senses and has returned to NoCo from Arizona, for which all of us local cachers are extremely thankful! Anyway, I verified my coords with the CO who gave me the go-ahead to log this, since the trail near the cache is still under construction. The area does fit with the overall theme of the cache, another nice touch! All in all a very fun and interesting cache, well-deserving of a favorite!

Did our homework for stage one, did our calculations for the final, and after hiking up Hewlett Gulch, attempted the final. The gate and its closure sign are still in place. CO gave us a pass. Thoroughly enjoyed the run-up to the final. Thanks for putting this one together!

Got permission from the Co to log this as found! I could t have done it without the help of Dud&Plato who gave me a copy of stage 2 to use. He had troubles with the clues so I helped him go in the right direction since he helped me with the material. It's too bad so many caches are closed off from fires and floods but that's nature for you. I hope to find this final someday!
