Native American Tribe Series

Poospatuck

One of the 13 tribes of Long Island, New York, probably subordinate to the Montauk. They occupied the south shore from Patchogue Island to the Shinnecock Country. In 1666 a reservation was ceded to their sachem, Tobaccus, on Forge river, a short distance above the town of Mastic, where a few mixed-bloods still survive, with no knowledge of their language or customs, on a state reservation of 50 acres. Elizabeth Joe, their woman sachem and last chief, died in 1832. In 1890 they numbered 10 families, governed by 3 trustees.

This was another easy find, but it was my last as I had a goal of exactly 28 finds for the day as I'm trying to complete a challenge cache the hard way by finding exact numbers of caches a day from 1 to 31, with the days being in any order. This was the last of the 31 I needed and I did all but one on this long summer trip. Good ache, great series, FDF favorite point here for the entire series, and TFTC!

Headed out with Joe Friday today with the goal of finding at least 100 caches to earn the Hidden Creatures souvenirs. It was a hot day, but we got it done. Almost all of the caches were quick finds, with containers in good shape and well maintained logs. Not sure how we had so many unfound caches about a half hour from home, but glad we did as it allowed us to get the souvenirs fairly easily. Thanks for all of the fun placements!

Out for a day of geocaching. It was quite hot today, but we still managed to find 55 today! It was a lot of fun to fill up this area with Smileys. TFTC!
