 Ponca

A Siouan tribe of Nebraska, the Ponca were closely related to the Omaha, Osage, Kanza, and Quapah. The Ponca built their villages on both sides of the Niobrara River on the boundary between South Dakota and Nebraska. The Ponca sometimes lived with the Omaha, whose language is essentially the same. Their name, Ponka, means "Sacred Head." They practiced farming in permanent villages, but in other respects they were plains Indians. In 1876 the Ponca were relocated to Oklahoma. Many Ponca returned to their native land on the Niobrara River. Today there are Ponca reservations in both Oklahoma and Nebraska.

It is interesting to note that I traveled thru the Ponca Reservation earlier on this trip; I do enjoy reading about the Native American tribes as well as hunting for the caches. This was another easy one; good job and TFTC!

Headed out with Joe Friday today with the goal of finding at least 100 caches to earn the Hidden Creatures souvenirs. It was a hot day, but we got it done. Almost all of the caches were quick finds, with containers in good shape and well maintained logs. Not sure how we had so many unfound caches about a half hour from home, but glad we did as it allowed us to get the souvenirs fairly easily. Thanks for all of the fun placements!

Out for a day of geocaching. It was quite hot today, but we still managed to find 55 today! It was a lot of fun to fill up this area with Smileys. TFTC!
