Denver’s Denargo City Market

Denargo Market opened in 1939, it also was transit-oriented. It was built alongside Union Pacific Railroad tracks, with more than 300 stalls leased to area growers who sold their produce to grocers, wholesalers and peddlers.
Denargo Market, a onetime hub in the shadow of downtown Denver, just off Brighton Boulevard along the South Platte River.
Today, a half-dozen one-story buildings with wide loading docks are the only hint that this was once a teeming place where hundreds of workers sorted and sold all of the fruits and vegetables that wound up on Denverites' plates.
The area now hosts a motley collection of businesses, from Colorado Flower Shippers to the gay-oriented Safari Bar & Grill. But at one time the district fed Denver, and the Italians ruled. Dozens of small Italian-owned businesses supplied wholesale produce to groceries all over town.

Caption on back of photo "…crowd which attended the opening of the market is shown here. A steady flow of automobiles drove through the…parking space and was taken by 8 o'clock and extra traffic officers were called to help handle the crowd, which…dance music and entertainment."

A bit sketchy, this area, but I made the grab and scribbled my name on the log. TFTC!

Finally got this one after at least three prior trips-- if ever was going to be a time I would find it, it would be a cold, dry winter day like today.
There was no log sheet inside, so I left a new one. TFTC!

Cache is in good shape, though there was an abandoned yellow jacket nest near by.

Looked and looked, even with the hint no luck. There’s also a small area closed off for a construction hole, but I also climbed over that to look. I’ll try again

Tough find...re-reading old logs was helpful in narrowing the search. Thanks!

Thanks, eye found it 2011! I had a few hours this morning to make my way to downtown Denver from Arvada. I run a pocket query of where I want to geocache for the the day, and today I chose the 1,000 caches closest to home. It was great going to the neighborhoods this quiet Sunday morning with very little traffic or onlookers. I especially liked geocaching in the RiNo Art District. I think I have most of the caches in this neighborhood except for a couple that were hard to get to because of construction.

Trying to dial in on my phone is a loser. Be VERY careful "feeling" for this one. Structure at GZ is crawling with yellow jackets. TA. PF4.

Not the best caching day for us but did redeem some DNFs. A bit chilly and windy .

Where did all the homeless people go? Remember driving by here one day and didn't even stop because the other side of the street was lined with tents. No one around today. Took us a while but finally came up with it.

Well when life hands you lemons you make lemonade. My mom just got into town tonight and we are headed back to my house but we found out that the police have blocked off my neighborhood because there are two criminals running around weapons. So instead we're going to geocache! Like an idiot I picked the only part of the entire Denver that has homeless people to go caching at one oclock in the morning. At least I had my machete with me which made me feel a little bit safer. :) TFTF
